Just had to replace the brake master cylinder reservoir and now faced with the task of trying to do a presentable job re-sealing the top of the reservoir to the inner wing.
Would appreciate any tips which would help me avoid making an unsightly mess.
Cheers.

Masking tape on the inner wing around the hole.

Masking tape on the reservoir.

Black Tiger seal or black mastic and a nice even bead all around, not too much.

Dip your finger in fairy liquid and smooth the mastic. Repeat if necessary, then carefully remove all the masking tape whilst the mastic / tiger seal is still wet.

Job done.

Masking tape for curves helps a lot.
I would use normal black silicone to aid removal in the future.

I recently had the same task, replacing the brake (and clutch) hydraulics, and I sealed the brake reservoir in with Sikaflex 221.
Same principles of getting it neat, but 100% need disposable gloves as it doesn’t come off your hands unless you clean it with white spirit within a few minutes.

I wanted a more permanent and reliable seal after having a very wet footwell from rain. Not sure why you’d use silicone, as it’s a lot weaker, and theoretically there’s no reason to need to remove the seal unless there’s a more significant problem to deal with.
