Comfy Barge £6.5k
Discussion
My 2009 CLS has just decided it no longer wants to live, which is a shame as I've enjoyed doing the last 50k miles in it, a comfy, good looking cruiser, as I do a lot of motorway miles and aside from usual consumables and this rather big hiccup, it's wanted for nothing, so short of buying another one because I'm tempted, I'm not really sure what else piques my interest.
Comfy, auto and cruise control essential, would like something 09/10 onwards, but not absolutely essential.

Probably an E class Merc unless you've been put off by the CLS dying. How did it die anyway?
Auxiliary belt snapped and has made I right mess of one of the pulleys, causing an oil leak that is literally pissing out of the engine and now has a knock within the engine that wasn't there before. The age criteria limits the full sized barges.
GS450h as above is good shout.
Hard to recommend any older BMWs they way they suffer with age.
Citroen C6 would be my choice personally as I'm desperate to tick one off the list and it fits thr criteria, just about, think the latest ones are 58 plate registered.
You'd also get quite a nice X350 Jag for that budget, slightly older though. The newer X351 in that budget probably a bit of a gamble if you can find one.

Another CLS is a strong option:

Another CLS isn't a bad idea, but a tad unimaginative maybe
What about a coupe from Mercedes, with this E350 CDI?

Aren't the jag 3.0 v6 diesels the same as the ones in a Land Rover Discovery? Snapped cranks. I quite like the jags myself but put off as thought they were the same engine and having owned a Discovery and seen the almost daily post on the issue I'm mentally scarred. Would be good to hear they are not the same engine.
If you are on Facebook, it's worth joining the XF owners page, quite helpful.
I was lift sharing to work with a mate who had an XF from about 60k miles up to 180k, and it still felt lovely to sit in, which is what made me buy mine. He had it for around 5 years and the only big expenses were the inlet manifolds cracking and they cost 500 each to replace with decent used parts.
Another former colleague of mine bought one about 4 years ago, similar story, done the manifolds but not much else bar routine servicing.
Mine was £4k back in October. Its been in to my local specialist for maintenance and a couple of bits and bobs but nothing at all eye-watering and nothing that took it off the road for any length of time.
It's a decent car and goes well, quite sensitive to crap or mismatched tyres as I found out, so that's something to keep an eye on.
Get one with the belts done as its quite a big job.

Good choice, my partner has not long bought a 3.0 Premium Luxury in Indigo Blue with Ivory interior. Its very smart, very smooth and returns surprisingly good MPG for a big car with a 3.0 turbo diesel under the bonnet. Unfortunately, she didn't get one with the belt done, but the low mileage and excellent condition made her unable to walk away from it. You won't find much pyt there thats better for covering distances in comfort than a Jaguar saloon car, and the XF is no exception.
