Trying to reattach the luggage net to the car (ie not the ceiling bit yet) and it's just not locking into place. No matter how hard I push it down onto the anchors on the car there is no clicking into place. Pushing the buttons on it does nothing. I note when I try and push the latches on each end there is zero movement like they are locked into the close position.

What am I doing wrong?

Are you sure you have it the right way around?

Try spinning it horizontally 180 degrees and see if it goes in then

(I speak from experience boxedin)

Unfortunately tried that and nothing. My concern is on the net case/mechanism itself, the metal latches on each end have 0 movement to them ie I can push as hard as I want and there is no way they are moving to lock into place, it's like they are stuck in the locked position and I don't know how to unlock them

Whilst mine is an F11 it looks like exactly the same mechanism. Mine pops in and out not problem and never needs any force. The tabs pop up to show that the mechanism has released and I do not push them at all to reseat. Mine just pops into place and seats by a gentle pressure on the bar. Maybe there is something that has dropped into the holes blocking this happening? Force is not required , so if it isn't going in easily something must be blocking it.

Resigned to having to go to BMW to let them look. Red tabs open but zero movement in the locking mechanism ie just sits on the anchors and doesn't engage them

Have you tried it with both rear seat components folded forwards?

Well, just swapped my F11 for a G31. Like yours the dog guard was not attached and didn't seem to lock. Watched the video for the F31 posted above and yes , the G31 does attach to the seats and would probably work but its not flush with the load cover. Looked at mine with both seats down and turned the opposite way round to the picture above and it all fits great.

I have exactly the same problem with my new G31 and I also had it with my last one. When you take the dog guard out it just won’t re-attach. With my last G31 I resorted to elongating the plastic covers to allow it to go further down into the fixed latch, and that worked. I literally just got a new G31 last week (3 year old 540i) and it’s done the same thing!!!! I am an engineer and very practical but I can’t work out how this is happening. I’m going to study the new car a bit more, but may have to resort to cutting the plastic again. The reason I found this thread is down to having the same problem with a second car and wondering what I was doing wrong, but it seems like others have the same issue. I’ll post again when nine studied the new car a bit more.

Look forward to your update and please share a picture of the plastic you are adapting.

Frustratingly I went to BMW last year (nearest one is 40 mins each way) and they managed to "fix" it. A few weeks later was doing a dump run so removed it, surprise surprise it didn't want to reattach and has been off ever since
