Pop into OddBins and have a chat with someone in there, they are normally extremely well versed and helpful.
For £30 I'd say you'd get something extremely good, in fact I'd be tempted to split that and get a bottle of red and a bottle of white for about £15 a pop.
Edited To Add: For pressents I have a bit of a taste for Australian wines, generally anything from the Clare Valley is really good, say a Chardonnay and a Shiraz.

Perhaps more importantly - does your boss have a clue about wines? £30 is a LOT for wine these days.
If he is into wine you can both please and impress him for less than that - go to a decent wine shop and ask for advice. If he doesn't know anything about wine, but is dumb enough to be impressed by cost - buy him a Chateau Bottled Burgundy - they are all expensive!

- very nice and I think you can get it for about £14

Sell those! They normally don't see out 2 minutes
