Recovery from France

If you broke down in France with an Eclass estate of luggage plus bikes and roof box, the recovery folk said your 15year old car isn’t worth the tow home fees, what would you do?

Assuming that you have breakdown cover that is limited to the value of the vehicle, I'd start by asking them for the numbers. Then maybe pay the difference ? I guess it depends on whether you were on the way home, out just heading out....

What’s the car worth to you?
Hiring a car or van is an option and you can hire a car transport trailer or low loader.
hyper U supermarkets have a big fleet, but you have to weigh up the costs.
Buying a transit or any other vehicle is not on as you have to be a French resident to buy a car in France
You have to be in theANTS tax system.
Depending on where the car is some of the removal companies operating between the UK and France can move cars for you.

I would put the job on Shiply.com…it’s going to be £1000-£1500 depending on distance

Get a flight home.

Which is exactly what I’m doing this week,we weighed up all the options.

Why is it the recovery firm’s decision if it’s worth it?
You pay the insurance or pick up the bill,not them.

Thanks tons for the suggestions and tips. I’m just being conservative and tight as the AA at looking for £250pa. Which tbh may be not too bad as the car is 15yr old, but I can foresee it would only take a minor prang for them to right it off.

I think its a standard clause, I've seen it before inhn my policy. If the cost of recovery is more than the vehicle is worth they will look to pay you out for the car rather than recover it I think.
