I tend to service all our family cars myself and for last number of years have been doing the same for my wife's friend and her husband. They always had older cars so simple enough. The husband now has a 2019 X1 1.5 which I assume is 1 year out of its BMW warranty as he's asked me can I service it for him.
If he was planning to change it in the near future I'd recommend he keeps at least an independent service history but he'll likely drive it for 10+ years so not a big problem.
Having never touched a BMW before, just looking confirmation that its easy enough to reset the service light without specific diagnostic equipment? YouTube seems to suggest that it is. I have an Autel but would have to purchase the BMW license for it if required. Also, is this engine one of the type that doesn't have a dipstick and relies on dashboard display?
Thanks.

Yes it will not have dip stick , the oil level can be measured from the i drive .

As far as servicing I would reccomend you do an yearly oil change & filter & get it serviced by an independent bmw specialist every two years to keep it a service history uploaded on the i drive.

The 1.5 3 cylinder is a good little lump but not ideal in an X1 he may not wish to keep it for 10 years.

You may be able to reset to the service warning but nothing will be recorded on the electronic record.

Thanks. I normally leave the receipt for the parts used with the date and mileage written on it in the car, can do no more than that.

Well all done this morning, oil, oil and air filters £63 from motorfactors.
General check over while changing, noted front brake pads needed in about 3k miles.
First time playing with an idrive to check oil level, found it pretty intuitive. Oil service and inspection service lights reset.
Better value than the £400 BMW wanted.
