Notchy First Gear?

Just bought a z3 (2.8) finding it hard to engage first, so have taken to going into second then up to first.

Any idea what this is indicative of?

Also the previous owner was something of a boy racer I think! has a very loud exhaust....where can I buy the quietest exhaust?...any recommendations?..I don't mind a bit of rumble on start up but this thing howls!

Removing the Clutch Delay Valve should help assuming it hasn't already been removed.

If the change is generally a bit "baggy" I think there is a bush for the selector that can be replaced.

Sorry I can't help with your exhaust question although you could try to find someone selling an OE one.
