This strikes me as particularly scummy journalism or at the least in very very poor taste.

"Michael Schumacher's family are planning legal action against a magazine which published an artificial intelligence-generated 'interview' with the former Formula 1 driver."

Wish I was surprised but I'm not.

No shock either that the family will go after them, and rightly so.

I don’t see the upside from the magazine pov.
A random AI generated set of quotes for an “interview” out of nowhere? Doesn’t make much sense on any level.
Family has every right to give them a bit of a slap. I can’t imagine any judge in Germany is going to be overly enthusiastic to support the magazine either.

It's horrible. The sort of thing you might expect from a National Enquirer type rag. But I looked up the magazine in question and Wiki say 'The target readership is primarily female. Around 80% of the readers are women, the average age is 57.6 years'.. So a bit like Woman's Weekly - bizarre article for them to publish. I suspect there will be an editor looking for a new job this afternoon.

No surprise here either - magazines and websites will do anything to generate interest and enough people lap it up for it to be worthwhile. I suspect there will be a lot more of this sort of nonsense.

It's one of the stories I read about and really wish I'd been in the meeting where this was pitched to understand what level of idiocy was on display. Who thought this was a good idea?

Despicable behaviour. Slight tangent but I am still yet to hear a convincing argument for developing AI.

Have these people not seen Terminator? Or I, Robot?

Honestly, what is the point. Yes it is in bad taste but the article didn’t say anything negative, it’s in fact what Michael would say if not for all of this cloak and dagger nonsense and secrecy.

In all of this time we haven’t heard a word from the family about Michael - it’s absolute craziness. They really should get off their high horse and appreciate that MS had/has lots of fans that just want to hear that he’s well, coping, fighting through. Anything!

They should go ahead and sue people for caring about Michael, or just see it for what it is and share in the love.

The Schumacher's have every right to privacy.

I would think from their silence that MS is obviously NOT well, NOT coping and NOT fighting through...which is sad if true, but not surprising and possibly the reason they do not wish to convey a hope for change. Any hope for change would no doubt spark more scummy media-clamoured sensationalism and rumour.

Eh? No offense but that's a crazy attitude.

It's AI, not mind reading technology, it has no idea what Michael would actually say, it's just guessing. Would you like it if an AI program wrote an interview with you and circulated it to your family and friends? And workmates? How accurate would it be?

As for his privacy, why can't he and his family be entitled to keep things to themselves? Yes he's a public figure and has a huge following, but that doesn't mean his fans are entitled to an all-access pass. If he'd been an attention seeking insta-wker then I might view things slightly differently, but he never struck me as someone who went chasing the limelight and publicity before the accident.

Should Charles Leclerc be complaining about people rocking up at his home or should he get off his high horse and appreciate his fans more?

Nope, they owe us nothing. We have no right to any info on his health and condition.

I cannot see the upside of this for the publication, surely they will be bankrupted by this and even if not bankrupted their reputation is in the toilet as the worst type of rag, who would want to be associated with them through advertising or anything like that.

As for the family owing us an explanation, no they don't, maybe you could make that argument if they were out flaunting fame and fortune and then begging for privacy, but they aren't. Ever since Michael's accident, which is a deeply personal and shocking thing for any family to have to deal with, they have made it clear they want privacy.

When Michael was a racing driver, he owed a certain amount of interviews updates etc. as part of his job. From the day he retired he and his family don't owe anyone a thing.

Look, I agree that the family are entitled to their privacy and all that. It’s is their prerogative and I respect that - I’ve moved on. It’s been nearly 10 years and this family don’t want to reach out to his zillions of fans to engage. Thats that, fine and dandy. But to go after a company that simply wrote:

Die Aktuelle said:
"I can with the help of my team actually stand by myself and even slowly walk a few steps," read the Schumacher 'quotes'.

"My wife and my children were a blessing to me and without them I would not have managed it. Naturally they are also very sad, how it has all happened.

"They support me and are standing firmly at my side."
In my book is ridiculous and shows a lack of humour. This could have easily been turned into a positive story about Michael instead they turn into a negative. Good luck to them.

But he didn't say that, he hasn't said anything.

this is an entirely fabricated article that imagines what he has said.
