March the 31st has passed, and early indications relate to 6 teams in excess of the agreed limit/s.

This is going to be become uncontrollable.

According to Red Bull it's up to 6 teams. Meanwhile, Domenicali says he's nervous to see if any are.

Teams have learnt that if you exceed the cap to build a dominant car then you'll get a slap on the wrists.

Can't blame the other teams for exceeding it. Red Bull should have been punished a lot harder.

The 2021 budget cap compliance wasn't finalised until 3 races before the end of 2022 - Highly unlikely the Red Bull penalty would have been relevant.

But a harsher penalty would have certainly been more of a deterrent. We're all aware of how Ross Brawn originally described the penalties and what actually happened when it came down to it, so why wouldn't more teams now breach it? It's pretty clear the advantage the overspend has given, only two teams who breached are the best performing/biggest step forward in terms of performance (can't speak for the improvement in catering of course).

This is the debacle I dreaded and expected, the punishment needed to be harsher than allowing the team to go on and dominate the rest of the field.

One suggestion mooted is a weight penalty 2 kilograms per 100k overspend, 1kg fuel is worth say 0.10 per lap, and weighing a car pre ballast and post should not be difficult... 1 million over = carry 20kg.

Theres no point in fining, or wind tunnel (sister teams or customer teams), taking performance away is the only way..

Let's face it the championship team has overspent, why would not the rest.

I'm just going to sit back and wait for Horner's reaction if Mercedes is one of the teams over.

We are constantly being told that cheating is absolutely fine if it's only a little bit. Get over it, its 2023...

NB Please feel free to copy and paste when 2024season is in full swing (just change the year)

My thoughts too ......... The reactions from the fanatically obsessed Merc fanbase will be a joy to witness.

Especially if it was spent on sidepods rather than catering ... rotate

I think that the spending at Mercedes might very likely end up being within the cost cap when reflected on at the end of the year, however is going to be disproportionately spent in the first half of the season, compared to other teams.

My thinking is the penalty for the minor cost breech was not hash enough so teams that can drop into that group ( minor overspend ) without to much of a punishment so will take the hit, im expecting a few team to be over the cost cap to test the FIA a bit more.

That’s quite likely IMHO. The FIA are going to end up with egg on their face, for the failure to hand out a meaningful punishment last year.

So Horner has turned tables and is now speculating about other teams breaching the cost cap? Christ, he really is a snake.

If teams break it, including Mercedes, the FIA are to blame by setting a precedent with letting red bull off the hook. I hope they all break it.

I would be surprised if any team bothered to stay within the cost cap, we know that exceeding it is not punished so why not spend more?

Red Bull, also Domenicali, the submissions are in audit. It's been discussed in the commission meetings between the TP's, all disclosed.

The UK based teams have seen huge energy/general inflation pressures.

Dangerous time for the FIA/F1, they set a precedent for frankly a non punishment last year, it will be likely be controlled overspend within the teams (of which i don't agree with). Cap should be the Cap.
