I visited Asda tonight, on the other side of town, to view their vast birthday card range with the view to purchase. After discovering a suitable card, I moved across to the magazine section for a copy of EVO, followed by a walk to a till. And it all went t:censored:s-up from there!

I gave the bint my debit card, and she tried putting it in the chip and pin machine. It isn't a chip and pin card, so it didn't work...she didn't understand why, so I explained, only to be ignored while she tried again. Again, it didn't work, so she chose to ask her colleague instead...who told her I'd have to just sign for it.

So, after her all too long search for a pen, I put said pen to receipt and leave my sign. She looks, goes back to aformentioned colleague, and comes back to me, looks suspiciously, and says that it isn't my signature! Now really, who would try buying a flowery birthday card for his aunt and a car magazine on a stolen debit card of all things? Anyway, she asked me to sign the receipt again, right next to where I had signed before.

I'm sure that any thief would appreciate being given two chances to get the signature spot on, but she went the extra mile to help me, the thief, by putting my card right next to the receipt, signature side up so that I could copy it straight off! I was a bit worried about the safety of mankind after that little episode, so I offered to show my driving licence aswell, just so they could be entirely sure that they weren't selling flowery birthday cards to criminals...and she only bloody said yes aswell

I tell ya, that's the last time I wear a hoodie and a cap into Asda! :D

Dont make the mistake of letting the incompetence of someone who was born to work a till ruffle your feathers. Smile, and thank her for letting you see your own signature, crack a joke and move on.

You should try business banking. Ive walked into a london bank with no ID whatsoever, nothing, no cards, no ID, no wallet... literally nothing (except my clothes, shoes and smiles) and walked out with cash!

Life is about charm, reserve a certain amount for bints and bank staff, but consider the fact that she showed you your sig a sign that she trusted you.

Had you looked genuinely hoodish, she'd have called security to inspect your card.

If you have the capacity to tolerate condescending (and my spelling) you'll appreciate the fact that Im not actually being condescending. I did my time on the till, know what its like, understand fids comments, moved on etc.

Ive walked into my bank, signed, been told to sign again, been shown the monitor and told to copy it (Lloyds) "could you make it look more like this please"

Till staff would be in BIG trouble if they didnt get a sig which matched the card. Simple enough to understand? They are trained not to accept signatures which dont match. Obviously.

If they trust us, they ask us to copy our own sig. Its happened to me more than a dozen times(!) (which also says something about my sig doesnt it! )

My point though, is dont expect the till monkey to explain his/her actions in a way which leaves you feeling relieved, at ease, and satisfied with their request for you to copy your own sig - after a few months of pushing groceries past a lazer, they are concentrating on doing their job, not on explaining the psychology behind their actions.

Arrogant, yes Condescending no

Hey, don't knock checkout girls. There are a couple at my local Tescos... ... anyway, a lot of them round here are Uni students. I used to chat up a lass at the local Safeways (or Presto as it was then!); years later I saw her picture in the local paper, she was head of some department or other for some big company, probably earning enough money to buy and sell me (which might not have been a bad thing )... even some of our high-flying PH mates had to start somewhere.

A woman or girl.'

This topic has me remembering a topic where I (drunkenly) referred to Lois as bint. Much to the amusement of the PH collective. And later, my embarrassement.

I wonder if Asda is slipping? I had one checkout girl who was totally incompetent, had to call for help several times, and was frankly not fit to be let loose on the public. Not her fault; she clearly hadn't been trained.

I think you'll find your mistake was going to Asda in the first place.

Our Asda is just like that, but then Tesco on the far side of Wycombe is fine.

Asda - Always voted the lowest priced supermarket. If they are that good why is our nearest 40 miles away?

The thing that always fascinates me about ASDA stores is the high proportion of fat people amongst both customers and staff. You will notice that this also applies to their adverts as well. I'm told by scumbags (sorry friends) who work in marketing that this is because ASDA target themselves specifically at lower socio-economic groups (who are, apparently, prone to be fat).

I wouldn't usually, but they have a much larger birthday card section than Sainsburys or Tesco, and it was bit of a rush situation!
