X5 auto lock and handle breaking problem

I’m a broken man this morning
Another handle mechanism has broken in my X5 and I’m nearly at the point of selling the car over it!
It’s a 06 X5 and great most of the time but it has this problem where there is an auto door locking after starting the car, and to open a door after this to let anyone in or out I have to stop the car take the keys out and unlock it again.
Everybody forgets this and try’s to get out or in and the doors won’t open so they try a few times more and break the plasticine mechanism.
I gotta strip the door down and do another one!! Arhhh
Does anyone know how much it is for BMW to change the code so it doesn’t auto lock
And has anyone seen a permanent fix for this issue like a titanium door latch thing??

I would assume the car settings somewhere allows this to be changed, it does in most cars.
Also, are you sure there isn't a lock/unlock button on the dash or door somewhere?
BMs quite often have these in the middle of the dash under the hazard light button.
To take the keys out & unlock the car seems particularly lame.

Yes, the handbook should explain. Also, are you sure there isn't a lock/unlock button on the dash or door somewhere?

The iDrive may have some setting adjustments.
Most cars have a means whereby the rear doors can be locked, such that a rear passenger cannot open them. It is a common child safety feature that can also be dis-engaged.
Just checked our cars:
F30 335d, a small sliding snib in the door shut face.
Skoda Fabia: similar but even better, it has a locking slot to turn that only something like the ignition key end can fit into.
You also may find there is a setting whereby you can unlock all doors, via the remote, or by an iDrive setting.
Again, our humble Fabia has
one press on the remote key fob to unlock the driver’s door (handy in dark or insecure places); and
two presses if you want to unlock all doors and boot.
Additionally, if any windows are left open on my BMW, a press and hold will lock the car and close any left-open windows.

My 06 E91 also has the auto lock feature (kicks in above a certain speed I think?), not come across an issue where any passengers have been unable to get out except where the chid lock switch had been knocked when cleaning the car, there is an unlock button on the dash just above the middle air vents that will lock and unlock the car which is needed if anyone is trying to get into the car or boot, if I take the key out all doors unlock.Another handle mechanism has broken in my X5 and I’m nearly at the point of selling the car over it!

Possibly a coding issue might be worth trying bimmercode or carly?
