991 turbo / Targa options
Discussion
I'm considering a 991 turbo or targa. Probably a 991.1 but not 100% sure yet. It would a daily driver. Both very different cars so will drive a few to work out which one works best for me.
What would you say are the must have options for a turbo or a targa?
How bad is the buffeting with the targa?
Are there known issues with the targa specifically?
The rear seats in the turbo (for me) are unusable. The coupe has a little more space or, at least are a little more useable. Space wise, are the seats in the targa any worse than a coupe?
Any thoughts about a rwd vs 4wd (in case of the targa)?
The car would be used as a daily. Are there any other factors to consider or be aware of?

They are both 4wd, so best to get that in mind first.
Rear seats in the Targa have same legroom, but are bolt upright so practically useless even for car seats, although small children can be ok for shorter journeys.
Biggest option I'd want on either would be an OPC warranty and/or impeccable history.

I can answer as a 992 targa owner, but not as a 991 owner as had a coupe version of that. What would you say are the must have options for a turbo or a targa?

Must have options... very individual choices. If your going Targa I'd go GTS and look for one with the GTS pack (alcantara interior and centre locks alloys).
Buffeting. I little have no issue with it at all, and I do motorways with the roof panel down. Others seem to report bigger issues.
Issues with Targa. Mine developed a rattle on the support bar which runs at the back of the rear seats. Getting it fixed under warranty and not a major job. I've had the roof 'stick' a couple of times in the winter, ie it wouldn't open, but a firmish push upwards soon sorted it. Maybe just lack of use cause it, who knows.
Rear seats in the targa will be the same as the turbo, albeit slightly worse as slightly more upright on the rear supports. I'd say they are ok for up to 10 years olds (generic I know) but after that unless you have smaller kids then its far from idea, although ok for shorter journeys if necessary.
rwd v 4wd. Both 4wd but when being driven the power is massively weighted to the rear wheels as the gauge shows should you choose to view that one. Under hard acceleration if throws more to the front, but in general driving its pretty much rear wheel drive seemingley.
As a daily, I would see no options with either aside from the potential depreciation, etc. Both swallow miles without issue, both are comfortable and have all the general day to day things you need, and both are more than quick enough. The targa comes with the added benefit of being able to drop the roof panel if the mood take you.
I've though about a Turbo (S) generally as would like to experience more models than I have, but the though I constantly come back to is that the Targa is the ideal car for me,

Thanks for the replies. Very helpful.
I’m viewing a 2014 turbo s today and a targa tomorrow. Also looking at a 997.2 turbo tomorrow with exceptionally low miles as it’s with the same dealer.
Are there any specific issues with the turbo s (991.1) to be weary of or look out for?
This one has the sunroof. Do they all end up leaking or is that not a concern?
How long does the coating on the PCCB brakes normally last? This 2014 car has done approximately 47k miles and has a FSH including one in the recent past.
If I like the car I’ll have an inspection carried out but interested to know your opinions on as much as possible so I can (try to) ensure I don’t pay over the odds.

I have a 991.2 turbo s , great if you wanted to use it as a daily driver . I don’t mines is a weekend car . They are amazing cars , really fast and comfortable.
Negatives would be standard they are very quiet for what they are . I’ve upgraded my exhaust which is made it amazing .
And all bolts associated with exhaust and turbos will be rotten and need changed out . My car has 12k miles and 17 plate and just had all bolts changed which isn’t covered under warranty
