Massa 2008 World Champion?
Discussion
Won't go anywhere but a very interesting turn of events.
Turns out Mosley and Bernie knew about Singapore 2008 before the end of 2008.
So by the rules they should've annulled Singapore and Massa would be world champion. Instead they pretended it didn't happen until it came out via other means and it was too late to change the championship outcome.
Massa now looking at his legal options.

& what rules would they be?as the absolute worst that would have happened is that Alonso/ Renault would have been excluded from the race/ season results ...so Massa might have had a case if he'd finished 2nd in Singapore- but he didn't
anyways, ill leave you to your obvious st stirring
I can't see why the event should have been annulled. If indeed the facts were known then surely the right course of action would have been to exclude Renault.
Given the FIA have allowed the result of the Abu Dhabi '21 race to stand, it's difficult to see them wiping Singapore 08 off the records.

It's a direct quote from Bernie Ecclestone in the link provided in the first post.Bernie said:
“We had enough information in time to investigate the matter. According to the statutes, we should have cancelled the race in Singapore under these conditions.
“That means it would never have happened for the championship standings. And then Felipe Massa would have become world champion and not Lewis Hamilton.”

And what difference would it make?
Would he sleep better?
Would he be taken seriously?
Would Verstappen fans knock one out each night looking at Hamilton’s Wikipedia page now amended to show just six titles?
Just embarrassing behaviour from the bitterest man in F1.
Why the hostility for someone to pursue legal options, if they think there might be a genuine case for them to be crowned as a world champion.Would he sleep better?

if they even go anywhere near it, there are a whole can of worms being opened here, Liberty are American they want a result on the day as all American sports people do. So this will not happen I imagine.
Odd thing to try and a little disappointed with Massa, he has a great legacy, it would not be bettered by this!

But MGT if you wanna trawl through the 2008 regs feel free. If you don't believe Bernie on that point then why pay any attention to the rest of the article.

It shows probable cause and intent.
Would depend on how good the barristers are.

Because there isn't a genuine case, it's all "he said, she said" and centres around a man known by millions to be as corrupt as they come. It would take an army of lawyers and some very creative interpretation of rules to get even close to annulling a race 15 years after it happened. I get some of you don't like Lewis but this is a stretch too far. honda_exige said:

So, my question stands, what rule are you relying on?
In simple terms, this is a big piece of 'no-news' as nothing can be done after all this time.

I don't know about you guys, but the article clearly states there is nothing that can be done. Anything to be done had to be done within 14 days, and not less than 4 days before the annual awards.

Did I not *clearly* state in my opening sentence that this won't go anywhere? It's an interesting 'what-if' at this point, unless Massa gets a barrister that tells him otherwise. So, my question stands, what rule are you relying on?
