Hi all,

I am going to buy a Mazda 3 around 140,000 miles. Is it worth £2800 as being my first car?
I check this year and last year MOT. If something must be fixed, how much would it cost to get it sorted? I am not sure how serious is the braking system.

Thanks in advance.

This year:
TYPE DESCRIPTION
ADVISORY Front Brake disc worn, pitted or scored, but not seriously weakened (1.1.14 (a) (ii))
ADVISORY Front Brakes imbalanced requirements only just met. It would appear that the braking system requires adjustment or repair. (1.2.1 (b) (i))
MINOR Nearside Registration plate lamp insecure (4.7.1 (c) (i))
ADVISORY Rear Brake disc worn, pitted or scored, but not seriously weakened (1.1.14 (a) (ii))
ADVISORY Front Registration plate deteriorated but not likely to be misread (0.1 (b))
ADVISORY Central Lower Engine mounting damaged but not to excess (6.1.8 (a) (i))

Last year:
TYPE DESCRIPTION
ADVISORY Brake disc worn, pitted or scored, but not seriously weakened front and rear (1.1.14 (a) (ii))
ADVISORY Front Oil leak, but not excessive (8.4.1 (a) (i))
ADVISORY Front Registration plate deteriorated but not likely to be misread (0.1 (b))
ADVISORY undercovers fitted

Well it needs a new set of brakes front and rear, possibly a front caliper if the imbalance isn't just in the braking material (might be a caliper with corrosion).

Also has an oil leak and engine mount issue which needs sorting, new plate, plate lamp fix etc. It's not horrendous but unless that's all been sorted I wouldn't pay market value.

Seems a bit pricy for the mileage when compared to others on Autotrader.

I would also be a little concerned by this: "ADVISORY Central Lower Engine mounting damaged but not to excess (6.1.8 (a) (i))"

Thanks for your opinion. Sounds needs a few hundreds quid.

Yep. The car is quite pricey though it was my favourite color and equipments.

At this price point you need to be buying on condition and history. Colour and equipment should be secondary considerations.

Ive had this from nearly new. First MOT ( PREMATURE AT 2 YEARS ) came up with this. Year on year I see this. But I've yet had to see an MOT tester fail car. I;ve done a micrometer test on mine. New 23mm, fail 19mm, and mine is constantly on 20.5. Something makes me think Testing stations see this as a goldmine, although I've had a RAC bloke tell me that it's due to non wear on the part of the disc not worn by the pads and not safety critical.

Not sure what the MOT history is like on this one but this 1.6 Sport looks decent:

Or this (dependent on your age etc) 2.0 Sport:
