I have the family male name to carry down the line.

It's my Grandad's name (we lost him in April)
It's my Dad's middle name, and mine too

I guess we're just an unimaginative family-there are no Chardonnay's or anything!!

Out of interest my middle name is James

I’ve never understood why in this country we find our middle names so embarrassing.

I use one of my middle names.
Given that my first name is Hilary (family tradition - the first born of each generation must be suitably humiliated), it made life easier when I was younger. Kind of regret it a little now, and my friends now tend to call me Hil or Hils.

Nor me.

But when I get married I intend to take on my maiden name as a middle name (because it can be done), in order to keep my father's name in my family. Aaaaah.

a friend of mine has the surname "Waters" so she is planning on keeping it when she marries so that she can give her children some proper middle names like:

stagnant
foamy
and my favourite one:
bridge over troubled

no i have to stay friends with her for life so that i can go to the child's graduation to hear "peter bridge over troubled waters" being called out!

Me too but not quite.... but kinda nice!

My middle name is John, my fathers first name
My sons middle name is James, my fathers middle name

My father had the same name as his father!

My son was born after the death of my father and it seemed a fitting tribute to keep the name going forward. Bizzarely, of my late fathers grandchildren (7 in total) my son is the only one who carries on the family name! So it seemed fitting to have one of his names going forward.
