Chelsea tractor thoughts

I find myself looking at SUV type motors with a budget of around £25k. So far I've looked at X5s, X3s and Cayennes but at my budget they're all at least 70k miles for euro6.

Anything I should be careful of with these and also any other suggestions?

I've just bought my second one (958.2 Euro 6 77K) for less than your budget. with a good service history and maintenance mileage shouldn't be a problem.

Touareg can get you newer and lower miles in budget, but high spec ones are rarer.

Depends how big you want to go

I have an F25 X3 which I’ve had for nearly 8 years now and it’s been faultless

It’s big enough without being a tank and for general daily family hauling business it’s just about perfect

Sure mine is “only” the 190bhp 20d but it’s quick enough and has averaged over 40mpg in the time I’ve had it and on long runs it will get close to 50mpg

I’d normally change my cars every 3/4 years but this is just so bloody good at what it does I’ve kept it and would struggle to think what to replace it with other than another one

You might just get a lower mileage Macan on your budget. Much nicer than the Cayenne in my opinion.

Is the macan dog friendly? I thought it had quite a sloping rear. Do like the look of it though

I've always had BMW cars hence X5 and X3 being on my radar but wasn't sure if they were prone to issues. I seem to remember the x3 being problematic in its youth.

Am I right in thinking the cayenne is just a Touareg with a different dress on?

I think around town the petrol hybrid Lexus is probably on a par with diesel rivals. Conversely at a 70-80mph cruise, the diesel engined rivals are probably cheaper.

The benefit of the Lexus is reliability, both in general being Toyota and specifically as no worries about DPF regen etc.

Depends on where and how much you drive, and how you get on with what's basically a CVT powertrain.

My thoughts on a Chelsea tractor - don't get one. Get a large estate instead. Much more classy, as well as being better to drive.

I thought that until I drove one. I now find the instant and continual accelaration of the Lexus eCVT preferable to the hesitation between gear changes on a traditional auto. Not having driven a tradition belt driven CVT, I don't know how much difference there is to an eCVT, which is actually a set of gears. To me though it feels like the best of both worlds.

Granted, they're not the most exciting of cars but, given the constant repair bills of my previous Jag, I'm happy to trade that for the solid build, reliability, and little more than the cost of consumables.
