Preferably somebody that understands the returning cash to shareholders situation...I'm not understanding it too well, in that I seem to be worse off after they've 'returned the cash'!

I'm not a shareholder, but I do work in equity capital markets (<==== I should understand the return of capital scheme!). Email me through PH if you wish.

They've just returned 2 billion sterling to shareholders after selling off some utilities and having a bit of cash in the bank. I'm just trying to work out if the return of cash is in the form of a bonus dividend for shareholders, or in exchange for a proportion of shares held, thus I'd expect the dividend plus my remaining shares to total roughly the same as the pre-return total.

I'm moving towards the idea that I'm not gaining anything from this...my total dividend and shareholding actually adds up to less than my pre-return total.
