Fiat Panda for first car to get one year NCD

So a friend of the family is selling a Fiat Panda and it only has 16,000 miles. They’re selling it for £1500 and insurance is cheap as well. I was thinking of getting it for a year so I can get one years no claims and then get a better car. Is this a good idea?

Recently ran a twinair 4x4. Great little car. Lots of charm and character and refreshingly simple. Parts are cheap but it’s quite a robust car anyway in most areas. The only car I’ve ever insured for less than £100 too which bodes well for you OP.

That's what I have and yes it is. Haven't quite got the insurance down to under £100 though!

If it's the newer 2012+ (312 shape) Panda, then it may have the Twin Air engine, which is a good, if unusual engine. It may also have the old 1.2 FIRE petrol or the 1.3 diesel and all are ok.

The older (169 shape) Panda's are quite similar, but are more prone to rust. Otherwise, they are well known cars, with lots of spares.

I know I grew up in days when safety wasn't a huge thing in cars and looking back think sometimes there was a lot of luck. But knowing early in your driving career mistakes can be more likely I'd like to know I'd as good a chance of dusting myself off from one. I know the little 100hp one has a lot of fans and the twinair too. I couldn't see past the below though these days.

Cheap as chips motoring, do run an insurance quote first though.

Regarding safety, or lack of - just a few minor things potentially lets the overall score down…

If you wanted to buy one with that kind of mileage on Autotrader, you'd need at least 5 grand.

At £1500 it won't be a twinair I'd have thought. Not necessarily a bad thing.
