I'm 69 years old, and I've only just realised I don't wash my thumbs thoroughly when I wash my hands. I still wash my hands the way I was taught as a child but, on inspection, it appears my thumbs escape lightly.

In view of this I would like to apologise if I served you soup when I was a waiter at The Angel Hotel in Guildford. Mind you, that was 50 years ago. You've either recovered or you're long dead.

Bon appétit.

Took me years to realise that the pop group "The Beatles" isn't spelled the same as the animal. I think I thought the animals were called beatles too.

And as a keen walker for many years I've just bought a pair of trousers with zip off lower legs and realised that the main advantage of them is that you can take the legs off and wash them more regularly than the rest of the garment.

I got to the age of 60 before I found that when the top is unscrewed from a tube of tomato puree, it can be turned around to pierce the top of the sealed tube.

I was round at a friends house the other day (we're both 60) when he opened a new roll off cling film. As he pulled some out, the whole roll came out of the box. He started moaning so I showed him the two flaps at each end of the box, that you push inwards to secure the cling film in place, so it spins round in the box . He couldn't believe it!

65 and discovered last year that the boat race goes upstream not downstream.

Not quite as long but on my daughters 24th birthday I discovered it's the day before St Patricks day. I'd never connected the 2 before.

I was going to post similar. I knew the spelling was different, but only very recently realised why. "Beat". A musical term.

I even wrote about this in "From the Editor", my page in a magazine I edit for some clients.

I'm 29, but only realised a few days ago I'm going to be 30 this year. I still feel about 21, well, apart from my back biglaugh
