I've got various bolts that I'm either unable to find or don't want to fork out on stainless/titanum replacements. Has anyone tried this before? I've attempted it a few times and I can never get it to stop the rust (if that's at all possible?). I've thoroughly cleaned the part, heated it up, drenched it in oil (repeated several times) and still rust appears a few days later. Am I expecting too much or simply doing it wrong?

I've never had success on the few times I've tried it, always just had them plated as above, or replaced of course.

Better off with a chemical blacking kit, they are not very expensive and give a much better finish.

That’s what I have, simple and quick to use.
