Dacia Jogger - ownership experience
Discussion
Hello!
This might be the most boring Reader’s Car ever featured, but given the amount of interest in cheap motoring at the moment, I thought I would share my experiences.
I chose the Jogger as after having owned vans, campers and large 4x4’s (part. Ex’d a Land Cruiser 120), we now need to save some cash. I have also completed the contracts the 4x4’s were bought for (and earned their money from!), so although fun, an off-roader is no longer necessary for my life.
What I do need to move around though are 2 very active sons (8 and 9), plus the friends and accessories that come with them. We are all avid mountain bikers and I run a guiding business, so moving bikes is essential too.
Why not a VW Van you cry? Mostly cost - for the monthlies on the Jogger I’d be looking at a 8 yr old T5 or 5 yr old Custom. And at that age, we know the clutch, DMFW, DPF, EGR and other issues are waiting round the corner. Since an excellent local mechanic has retired, I’ve had a range of sloppy jobs from various other garages, which puts me off a car with known work waiting.
So, the jogger measures us well, has the seating capacity we need, the monthlies are good and it reviews well - so I took the plunge.

O C Davies (Cardigan) gave a good dealer experience (my first ever new car purchase!) and handover.
The car itself is cheap, but cheerful. There’s nothing (yet) that’s annoyed me bar the front parking sensors which don’t like the steepness of our track. But they were easily (and permanently) deactivated in the settings. Seats are comfy, controls and obvious and physical, my phone paired straight away and 6 music sounds good on the stereo.
I’ll withhold judgement on performance and economy until it’s run in, and will report back then!
First impression: if you want a family hold-all on a budget, go and have a test.

Looks very grown up in that colour.
I've started to see them out and about now.
I think Dacia are just getting started, if they can bring the Bigster to market looking anything like the concept and then a new Duster that doesn't need to depart too far from the current model they'll take market share off the established players.

Cheers thats great, surprising to see that with the seats folded the load bay is shorter than my Logan by around 150mm, down to the how the 2nd row folds. Can the 2nd row be removed? I know they don't lift out but wondered if the can be easily unscrewed/unbolt.Silvanus - second row seats can be removed in 5 mins - only 2 bolts holding the whole assembly in! Very clever.
Only driven it for a day due to snow, but 45mpg so far. Driving gently due to running in, but car feels “tight” and manual says the best comes from 1500 miles.
And now the moment we’ve all be waiting for: boot photos!

6 foot me behind my driving position. Tables may have to come off before the kids destroy them. Only 2x torx bolts.
