After a lifetime of saying that I can’t bear country music, I find myself fighting disturbing urges….

So far I have discovered that I can listen to this:

If I were - you know…. - interested to keep exploring the dark-side, which other artists do I need to listen to and why? I like live performances, much less keen on studio airbrushed perfection…

I love a bit of country, old stuff, new stuff, whatever! I really like a lot of Sturgill Simpson's music (apart from the Sound and Fury album)
I recently stumbled across Post Malone covering one of Simpsons tracks, which is about as far removed from his usual offerings as could be, and it's great

I'm a bit partial to 'some' folk too, I've just listened to that and it's good.
I can only listen to it in small doses though, as lovely as it is I eventually need something with a bit of get up and go

She's got a beautiful voice, Crooked Still stuff is also worth a listen.

I'm a big fan of country/bluegrass/folk style and totally unashamed Would agree though that a lot of the modern country stuff can be a bit bland. Chris Stapleton's earlier band The Steeldrivers, John Prine, Todd Snider, The Devil Makes Three, Hayes Carll, Dan Reeder...

And Red Sovine of course.
