...they are lovely:)

i have been running my music through a crappy bog standard hifi for years now and i thought it was about time that i finaly got some decent sound quality.

i got a cambridge audio A5 amp which won a number of awards 2 years ago
and a pair of TDL KV1 bookshelf speakers plus wires and interconnects for £220.

i am very definitely a happy bunny today!

that post was of no real importance but i just felt like letting people know.

Sounds good. I had a Cambridge Audio P50(?) in the 70s and it was a great amp.

If CA have kept their quality up, it will prove to be reliable and a good investment. I got more for my old CA amp when I sold it than it had cost me new.

I took delivery of a new system from the most honourable Derestrictor on Friday

I did consider bookshelf speakers but eventualy decided on the "stone henge" look

And they sound bloody lovely. I wasn't convinced that a AV amp was going to handle stereo that effectively but this one is more than a match for my old Cyrus

Cambridge Audio as a UK based high end HiFi maker ceaced to exist 10 years ago and the name was bought by Ritcher sounds to slap on Asian manufacturered goods.

Still decent kit for their budget but the budget is 1/10th of what it was per item..

Re the Cambridge audio stuff, I'm still running an old CA CD player and it still sounds good even when up against new stuff

Yep QUAD still produce amps and the Electrostatic Speakers but given they are owned by the International Audio Group I wouldn't think many products are UK built these days. The company is Chinese and "trades" on UK company names. I wouldn't go near them.

For UK built equipment try ARCAM and Meridian an the many smaller specialist companies like CHORD.

What are you using as the source? a good front end is all important. Better to buy a high end cd player or turntable that is few years old and in good nick.

Agreed. The Cambridge Audio A1 Mk3SE was a good budget amp, had one for a while. The higher up models were nothing that special as I recall, but still not bad bits of kit. Much better than an all in one anyway

Enjoy (but remember to listen to the music, not the equipment )

Hifi is one of life's essentials. Good to see your happy. I bet all your friends will need one now!

I use pro studio gear that sometimes crosses over into the highend arena - Bryston, PMC, Benchmark, Teac VRDS on Townshend. Cost more than my car, but it's soooo worth it. Happy listening!

I remember getting into proper hi-fi about 10 years ago, and the sheer jump in quality of sound (from a crappy system) is truly amazing. I now have three full systems which i swap and change, and amongst them is a Cambridge Audio Amp and a CD player (can't remember which models). Both perform great, although i must admit the CD player is prone to jump every once in a while
