Good afternoon,

I have an eye on a manual 993 Carrera 2 (10/1994, 272bhp) with 100k km, 1 owner and full maintenance history i.e. maintenance every two years at an official Porsche Centre and last maintenance in 2022.

Question: what are more or less the yearly costs that I need to anticipate to keep the car in good condition on the road? I am aiming to drive the car 10-15k km per year.

Thanks for your feedback.

Cheers,

Dominique

It should be in excellent condition so £1000 to £1500 a year I guess

I had a lovely 993 C2 about 10 years ago. Cost me a lot even then - clutch, fuel injection system, bits and pieces of corrosion. Go in with your eyes wide open, they are maybe inherently reliable but can and will throw up regular chunky invoices

The costs to keep it will depend on whether you are going to continue to use an official Porsche dealer or not.

Without wanting to state the obvious they are now 25 years plus old and Porsche are not known for cheap parts or labour charges.
I have had my C2 prevarioram for 4 years with 88000 on the clock and apart from the usual service items it has needed several pretty major repairs. They have included a full suspension refresh and gearbox rebuild.
Your estimate of £1000-1500 per year is not far off the routine stuff but be prepared for some significant additions.
I hope/think that mine is now well sorted but who knows?

A couple of mates run 993’s, they both budget on £2k a year as neither use them regularly enough which tends to make them more expensive to run. They’re at an age where things like window seals will probably need replacing…especially if the car isn’t garaged,

I hope my budget is about right. With full main dealer service history one would hope that every little detail has been attended too. Worth looking through the invoices to ascertain what has been done over the years. I've just bought a 48,000 mile 993 C2 Tip that has been very well maintained with two service books full of stamps. I've a years warranty that should cover any unforeseen issues.

I had one that was a bit costly at 12 years old. Cars will be in varying condition, and it depends whether you want to keep it as merely 'safely usable' or in great condition (or better!). If the latter, you'll need to fork out on stuff that has simply become tired after all these years, and there will be things you simply want to make 'just right'. Plus, there is potential for something major to go wrong.

I'd bet on ownership being 'expensive'; if you have some 'inexpensive' years, count those as a bonus but save the cash for the 'expensive' years.

Thank you all for the feedback. The car I have in mind has about 20k euro invoices for the last three years. On the one hand this is great as it indicates that the car is in excellent condition. However, I am afraid it will keep on adding invoices in this order of magnitude over the coming years.

You need to take a look at those invoices in detail and see what they are for, no way you'd be spending 6/7K keeping a 993 on the road. If its just general service costs from Porsche then they'll continue in that magnitude as long as you keep it in the network. The only time I've had a 'several thousand' pound bill for my car is when I've had the engine out for work.

Just looked at what I spent on mine last year and I over service my car.

MOT
Oil Service plus replace Oil Filler pipe ( in the rear wing)
Adjust the drivers door mirror. ( was a bit loose)

A little shy of £600

This year I expect it to cost me a bit more, because it's due brake fluid, and I'm changing wheel sizes so thats a big cost. But if I wasn't doing that then I'd be looking at a £5/600 bill.

That is a lot in 993 world. £1,500/year is normal for 1,000 miles pa with a service and extra bits that need doing. They are not unreliable - they just have a lot of expensive bits and ongoing small issues that constantly come up. Heater flaps etc at £650 a time which make life unbearable unless fixed.

So the previous invoices amounted to an average £5k per annum for each of the last 3 years (20k euros total), but increasing the mileage to 10k miles per year (highly likely it was doing less than this previously) will drop the annual costs to £1-1.5k ?!

If you are into diy you can save a fortune on these cars. Last week GSF had brembo brake discs on offer at £11 each. I feel like I have been scammed as I paid £18 at ECP last year!
