Seems to me that track days are mostly always v8 tvr's and not sp6 the only reason for this is that the sp6 owners are sitting at home delaying the inevitable. Hope thats not true but the v8 owners seem more keen to get the most from there cars and come across more relaxed and less (Whats that noise).

There was a keenly driven Tuscan at TVRCC Oulton Park last month, we had a superb ding dong for a couple of sessions, it made a refreshing change to see one driven hard, usually they just seem tp pootle round!

Its something i'm quite interested in 'cus my next trev will most likely be a speed six & i do like my track days. Anyone got any first-hand experiences?

the point im making is, where is tvr heading. When the V8 cars were made owners were more drivers now it seems since the sp6 has arrived the owners seem less into the actual car and more into posing. maybe the old v8 days were better. Not only has the car changed so has the clientel.

That was my point. But you have hit another nail on the head with your reply. such a shame how its all got.

Yes, I have a 2000X tuscan which I have taken round goodwood and snetterton, and done santa pod (yesterday) and thorney island 1/4 mile drags, which has had no rebuild and done 23000 miles. If IT happens , all I know is that it has been well warmed up before exploring rev range, regularly serviced (tappets adjusted at every single service) but also driven hard when conditions allow and has given me untold pleasure over 2 and a half years and that I will have had more than my money's worth. My biggest problem with track days is the dB limit and I am now looking for standard rear cans, so that I don't have to limit myself to the occasional 'loud' day.

I don't profess to be an expert driver, but having driven porsche 911RS's, an exige, etc... round tracks, I really do rate the handling of my tuscan, and also the fact that I 'whooped' a 996 GT2 at snetterton recently, which my instructor in his exige could't even get close to. And their (exiges) supposed to be the dogs ganglies for tracking!!!!!!!!!!!

I do agree, however, that everyone will want to take care of their P&J's, but I don't see the point of having one if you're not willing to explore its limits (legally) - however, each to their own. It took me 1yr of ownership until I ventured onto a track, but having done it several times now, I will never regret it or look back.

Bring on the next one.

As TOP GEAR keeps reminding us and EVO magazine (at the bedford autodrome), TVR's and certainly the T350, tuscan and Sagaris are not only phenomenal looking, extremely fast in a straight line , but also superb round (dry) tracks and continually blow away 100000K plus exotica around both Bedford and the TG race track. If memory serves me correctly they were all quicker than the noble as well!!!

SO, all you doubting chimaera and griffith owners who want to trade up - just do it..... where else can you find all the above attributes for 40K, let alone the 20-25K that will get you a mint 2000/2001 tuscan....

I rest my case...

Simon
PS is case you hadn't realise, I LOVE MY CAR !!!!!!!!!

I have been into all my TVR's(they would be difficult for me to drive if I didn't) from the one I enjoyed the most, the wonderfully raw V8s, thru Griffs, Cerbs, Chims and now the brilliant sp6 engined Tuscan(it also shits me up sometimes).
P.S. I let my charm, wit and amazing looks do the posing for me(see profile).

Nah, I reckon it's just that the new stuff is so much better looking, it's tempting not to pose sometimes....

There's also at least 2 Saggy-asses on here who regularly do hill climbs and I've seen a fair few Tuscans on track...

I'd also suggest it's to do with the age, and value of the cars. I'd be more comfortable tracking a 10k Chim than a 50k Saggy..

What a load of bollox!

Drivers? we're all driving very fast, very capable sports cars, not shopping trolleys. The TVR experience is not quite as raw in an S6 car as a V8, but ther's still no ABS and a lot of power, so the person behind the wheel of any TVR has to have some driving skill, even it's only the art of self-preservation.

Posing? Another ridiculous sweeping generalisation. How many posts on PH go on about revving engines, waving at crowds, etc, and that's from ALL models? TVR owners are just as likely to pose in a V8 as a S6. After all, you wouldn't buy a TVR if you were a shrinking violet would you?

The clientelle hasn't changed. My guess is that track days are often organised by the TVRCC, which does have a slightly different client base than PH - more wedges and Griffmaeras, S1,2,3 etc, and possibly a lot more cars of that era are being modified for track-biased fun.

This strikes me as yet another "The only proper TVR is a V8" thread. TVR did not suddenly stop producing good cars when the V8 cars died. They just went on to replacement products, which are substantially more professionally engineered and finished.

Perhaps all the V8 owners go to track meets so they can moan to each other about their trunnions not being shiny enough?

Think DeeJay made a valid point about the cost of the cars. I suspect it takes a lot more bottle throwing a 50k sagaris into a corner than a 20k chim.

Other things that obviously come in play are TVR warranties don't cover track/racing & hence any damaged caused during these is not covered.

When we had a Vixen, we thought all the M series owners were posers and never seemed to drive their cars hard.
When we bought a Taimar, we thought all the Wedge owners were posers and never seemed to drive their cars hard.
When we bought a Wedge we thought all the Griff/ Chim owners were posers and never seemed to drive their cars hard.
When we bought a Chim we thought all the Tuscan owners were posers and never seemed to drive thrir cars hard.

When we bought a T350 .......tell me when to stop please.

I think you've got the point.

Edited to say, we've enjoyed them all, including the current poser mobile

Hmmm... I'd wager to think that if you really could afford to blow 20K on one afternoon, 50K wouldn't be that much different...

As TVR have just released the Sagaris as a 'track and road' car I doubt anyone owning one and wanting to track is going to be concerned about giving it some on the circuit.

Ray is just as keen to track the Sagaris as he was to track the Cerb...and he will treat the Sagariss in just the same way....
In fact, he will probably push it more as it is supposed to hold the corners better than the Cerbera.

I just wish we had more free time...he only gets to track once or twice a year.

Don't feel this thread is achieving anything in particular......

Yes YP this thread was not meant to achieve anything apart from knowing why for example as you know castle combe had around 70 cars 60 were v8, 3 were non tvr (roughly). The sp6 is a wonderfull engine for track and cant understand why there is not many seen on track days.

I was just wondering if it was the same reason as pistonheads having a forum just for sp6 engines.

Do you think that if you own a speed 6 the general concensus is dont give it stick, a bit like winning the lottery and cant spend it,
