Yes, a lot more interesting. I think you are in to GR Yaris territory too - albeit a much more focused car than the DSG Golf

Having had 2 x 7.5's and an M140, the M140 is infinitely a better drive in every way. The R is one of the numbest hot hatches I have driven and I currently have an R estate for baby duties.

No LSD in the M140i puts me off and Golf R just seems a little dull.

I'd probably go for a Golf GTi Clubsport 40

You should consider a seat leon cupra R ST abt.

They are fantastic cars with more character and better handling than a golf r out of the box. I have owned mine for 2+ yrs and is comfortable and practical for the everyday stuff but get to a decent road and it comes alive. As part of my commute I was driving from Manchester to Barnsley across woodhead pass and I was really surprised how capable the car was. I have since taken it around Oulton park and it handled track work really well too. The brakes are RS3 items as standard, dcc is standard, heated seats etc and some really nice carbon bits too.

Friend has one I’ve ridden in plenty of times. It’s not uncomfortable nor comfortable, it’s just average imo.

You should try a Range Rover before you comment on what a comfortable ride is

I had a Mk7 with the DCC option and it was good, only annoying thing was it would knock a little going over speed bumps, its a good and rare option though

£30k budget puts quite a few nice options on the table:

BMW M2
Toyota GR Yaris
BMW M4
Golf GTI Clubsport 40
Audi RS3
Renault Megane R.S. 280 / 300 / Trophy
Focus RS

M135i / M140i - good cars, great engine but not the most polished dynamically. Nothing a decent suspension setup wouldn't cure though (watch Dan Prosser's YouTube vid of his M135i vs M2).

Golf R is a solid steer and would have all weather ability in spades. I have a mate who has one and have been out with him on track in it - massively impressive car.

I completely agree with the previous statement. Many individuals are expressing unfounded opinions about cars they have never owned or driven. Personally, I have owned a MK7 Golf GTI PP without DCC, and I can attest to its excellent ride quality, especially since I reside in the south where the A/B roads are notoriously rough.

Doing several Inverness to England trips in the car for hours on end isn’t a good idea of the comfort? It’s not a quick 10 minute ride across town.
