Which is better for serious track day stuff. Is the CAN-AM chassis significantly less stiff than the GTR, or will there be negligible difference between them on track ?

Thanks.

I'd say that unless you have ball the size of melons, or the ability of the mutant offspring of Schumacher and Alonso, I don't think you'd be able to tell the difference. The 'wind in the hair' (read wind noise in the helmet) probably makes the Can-Am feel faster in fly-screen guise?

Regardless, your bottle will have gone way before you reach the handling limits of either

Oh, and before we start a debate along the lines of 'car with roofs are tortionally stiffer etc.', consider that the fastest Le Mans cars a sports prototypes ie. roofless, not the GTs

You must have missed a group out; perhaps: - "those who are daft enough to think they should be the Mentor of Schumacher and need a phallic symbol to replace their balls, which they could only wish were the size of Melons."

I can say this because I have found the limits of the vehicle (I accept that does not make me a good driver nor confirms I am a bad one), having had it well out of shape and put it in the Kitty Litter at Donnington.
I personally get most satisfaction out of driving to the limits and I would not be happy that I had done so until I found those limits.
One of the main attractions for me is that when I do find the limits at least I have a full roll cage in the GTR which should offer me more protection when I do get it badly wrong.
Also having done a track day in Heavy rain I was thankful I didn't have a Can-Am, (Fantastic days fun and equally, if not more exciting, than in the dry)

Actually, in it's current layout the record is held by the Audi R8 which is in fact, open topped.

2002 T. KRISTENSEN (Audi R8 - 3600 cc +T) 3’33”483 = 230,182 km/h

Besides, the Can-Am is weather proof all year round - it has a soft top you know!

Your right, the porshe 917? was the old record holder before they changed the cirquit...

A softtop can be weather prove, but at high speeds it makes a lot of noise! and it bulbs?

and your cw drag is more in a cabrio... and when they break car speed records they use no cabrio but a car with a roof...or am I wrong again

with a full screen i would have thought the can-am drag difference would be very small ,and don,t forget the weight saving with a can-am,and you don,t get wet over 50mph !!! so for a track day would be perfect !!!!

At the end of the day, both are awesome track tools, neither will disappoint.

Just down to personal preference

I've driven the GTR on track and admittedly have yet to experience the Can-Am. Hopefully it won't be long before it's finished so I'll let you know 1st hand instead of speculating here

They won the race in 2003, but still slower lap record wise.

2002 T. KRISTENSEN (Audi R8 - 3600 cc +T) 3’33”483 = 230,182 km/h

2003 J. HERBERT (Bentley speed8 - 3995 cc +T) 3’35”529 = 227,997 km/h

2004 J. DAVIES (Audi R8 – 3595 cc + T) 3'34'264 = 229,343 km/h
