I like the look of these but was horrified to see kerb weight at 1730kg ? My 911 weighs 1425 kg

No, a 991.1 GTS which I am not selling! It’s nearly 300kg lighter than the M2.

I was just doing some online tyre kicking, I have a E39 540i as well, that only weighs 1600

They put 4 seats and a useful boot on it

To be honest the weight didn't cross my mind, i've still ordered one. Manual in Zandvoort blue,due June.

Nothing happened to BMW, and they have always been heavy cars for me. My old Z4M Roadster with only 2 seats was almost 1500kg, and the E46 M3 from 23 years ago was almost 1600kg as well.

The turbo engines do help with their weight now in comparison to years gone by I reckon though.

My F80 M3 is 1575kg! Motor industry is in turmoil at the moment imho, so many "problems" for them to deal with including cars that are now massive on the road and heavy.

You're not comparing like with like weights.

The 1730kg quoted for the M2 is EU weight, that includes a 75kg driver and a 90% tank of fuel. EU weight post WLTP changes is quite accurate, prior to WLTP manufacturers could game the system a little by having a model very light on options for example.

EU weight of an auto F80 M3 and M4 is 1660kg, and you could probably add some options weight on top of that to be comparable with the new M2.

Afaik it was 1575kg but RWD of course Vs now 4WD.

The new M2 is also RWD only

I don't know the comparison but i'm now five months and 8,000 miles into my M240IXDRIVE and can give it nothing other than praise coming from an M2 which i still own and use occasionally don't know what the weights are but going by the M240 the New M2 460BHP I'm sure will not disappoint me..

I think it is because it is on the 3/4 series platform. Although I was always a bit surprised the that old F87 M2 weighed the same as the F82 M4, because in my head I expected the M2 to be lighter with it being a smaller car.

Out of interest, do you have that June date confirmed on your factory status sheet thingy? Latest info I have for mine is production in May and delivery (bearing in mind it's coming from Mexico) in July and that was first order by my dealer made on the day the model was released for orders. Not saying there won't be cars in build slots ahead of my order but just interested in any confirmed and up to date information from others of when the very first customer cars might arrive in the UK.

It’s basically a short wheelbase 5 series, why would it not weigh 1730kg.

The M2C did. The OG was considerably lighter.

I checked out a Z4 M40i recently and it looked so wide. The new M2 is 1cm off that width. Both fatties compared to E9x M3 and that was already getting lardy. A Yaris GR is the same width as the E92 M3.
