This popped up this morning. I've never heard of it before and didn't know anything about it. But, just YES! biggrin

(NSFW violence, gore, swearing)

"During the last desperate days of WWII, a solitary prospector (Jorma Tommila) crosses paths with Nazis on a scorched-earth retreat in northern Finland. When the Nazis steal his gold, they quickly discover that they have just tangled with no ordinary miner. While there is no direct translation for the Finnish word "sisu", this legendary ex-commando will embody what sisu means: a white-knuckled form of courage and unimaginable determination in the face of overwhelming odds. And no matter what the Nazis throw at him, the one-man death squad will go to outrageous lengths to get his gold back -- even if it means killing every last Nazi in his path."

Sisu was a brand name for a Finnish truck and bus manufacturer, starting c.1932. Their take on the name was "stamina, persistence, guts and stubbornness".

Sisu was a term often used to describe the qualities of apparently fearless drivers like Keke Rosberg

Pretty sure that type of land mine wasn’t used after 1942, and would have been well obsolete by the end of the war when this film takes place.

I've had a quick skim and I'm pretty certain this is the last shot of the pupper in the film...

Let's have happy thoughts hehe
Aww, guess it stuck in my head because apart from the colour and obvious superior intelligence it's pretty much my dog!

Well it was handy to fit it into the Lapland War, so that very brief period when the Finns (arms being twisted by the Russians) turned on their Nazi former allies and kicked them out.

Not completely inaccurate, but like quite a few national legends from some parts of the world it only works under a very narrow focus.

Sisu 2 in cinema on Friday. Local Odeon has one showing a night at 9:10 to start and a bit later next week until Thursday. Odeon updates their showings weekly so after Thursday next week it might disappear from showings.
