Remove map before recall?

My 335d has to go for an egr recall shortly - would it be worth removing the remap beforehand?

Just in case they find anything that they could blame on it?

My 435d went in for the EGR recall, complete with map in place. It came out with egr done and map still in place. No issues for me - Lookers in Stoke.

My pal has an AUC warrantied 335D touring with Stage 2 map/hardware on it. Recall done yesterday at BMW Colne IIRC and it was in & out with zero issues

Wonder if it's luck of the draw?

TBH I don't think they do any digging; it's a national recall, so they'll want them in, fixed, and out ASAP

Even if you remove the map they can tell the software has been accessed & can still decide to remove warranty cover, so not worth the time & effort to get it removed.

They generally only do software updates (thereby overwriting remaps) during a major service. But recalls being FOC, they don't generally do that as they want the car out of the door as quickly as possible. The engine module can take well over an hour to pull the software down from Germany.

They won't look for a remap doing EGR recall ... they will just sort it and give it back.

If they look, they will see a remap, even it removed, as it leaves traces they can see re gearbox torque for example.

I was mainly thinking if the egr had issues and had caused damage, they could blame it on the remap.

No point in removing if there will still be a trace though.

My MY14 330d has had two EGR recalls and an airbag recall over the years. Each time it went in with a map and EGR blanking plates. They wouldn't refit the blanking plates, but gave them back to me both times to refit. No issue.

Nope, completely wrong. The only time a software update is done by the dealer is when there is a specific requirement to do so (such as diagnostics during repair). The car is not updated as part of any service.

The recall is FOC to a customer, but the dealer charges the repair to BMW UK - the time is good, so it is seen as great work for the dealer and they will seek to maximise any sales off it. There is no requirement to update the software as part of this recall (there is a separate recall running alongside the cooler replacement which does require this), so OP, no need to remove map.

If the car does need plugging in at all, it will show an S0777 tuning modification to the dealer. The only point this would become an issue is if you are still in warranty. HTH.

Yes they did the recall work.

Not under warranty as 208 car
