Comfortable estate/SUV, reliable for long distance commute

Asking for a friend who does a 600 km commute every week. He gets a company allowance for PETROL so the main criteria is comfort, reliability and for the family vacation some good luggage capacity (2 daughters). A nice V6 would be great!

These have a 3.0TT Hybrid drivetrain, so I'm saying if you're looking for a Mercedes SUV/Estate this is the drivetrain I'd look for,

I went from a A6 to a Q5, I’d swap back to the A6 in an instant, so much more comfortable as a motorway cruiser.

I'd agree with this. A Q5 is more of an SUV 'lite', such as a Nissan Quashqui or something. Large estate is better in every way apart from the height your head is at above the tarmac.
Surely it should be a Q7 if you are looking at Audi?

I've also suggested this on another thread so feel like a broken record, but a 2015 onwards Mercedes CLS 350 Shooting Brake would be in budget and is a lovely place to spend a lot of time.

I'd normally agree but the OP specified petrol which rules out the CLS 350cdi.
