Cheap Luxury Saloon?

hey all.
ok, i'm still ever undecided with our 2nd car.... does mean the caravelle gets alot of love!
anyway, I've been round 4x4s and like them, but tbh for what I'll likely do, a set of winter tyres will do the job well enough.
I like estates but we've got the caravelle, and anything that needs "transporting" would go in there - and does.
So, what do I actually need.
Something easier to park than the caravelle for normal daily stuff.
Something petrol - 20p/ltr cheaper now mean diesel isn't really worth it.
Automatic. Must be automatic.
I don't want to spend more than £6k
I like the idea of an A8, I want something comfortable above all else, but I also want to be able to put my foot down on a motorway and go, or overtake a lorry on a straight bit of road with ease....comfy wafty ease. I don't need a sports car, I don't want 2 door/2 seaters I want something I can load the family into and drive in luxury.

The Lexus GS450h always caught my eye as a wafty but rapid and over looked saloon.
The CVT gearbox is a bit marmite though, and the mpg figures for a hybrid aren't great (though it is 0-60 in sub 6 seconds)
If a V8 is acceptable to you, why not have a think about the Jaguar XF? Which can be had around £6k and are all auto.
Their V6 is about 8 seconds to 60, but the 4.2 V8 can do it in just over 6, but apparently only dropping a couple of mgp combined (based on auto trader anyway)
A mate has a later XF supercharged, and raves about the handling, though think it's firmer side of things than wafty.

Question of balancing out the Bork factor, really... In that sense I can see why you're taking diesel out of the picture, though I'm not sure I would.
I would (and for sake of disclosure, did) look at a Volvo S80 - not silly numbers of them out there, extremely comfortable seats and a good wafter for long journeys... You'll find some 2.5T, 3.2 or even the occasional V8 on budget, but I wouldn't overlook a cared-for D5 either - really reliable diesel engine and the tax is a few hundred a year lower.

Please don’t do this to me lol. I had a V6 TDI Allroad that I loved, keep considering getting a ‘proper’ on and going for an S6 Avant and bottle it when I read the buyers guides What could possibly go wrong!

...advert listed on AutoTrader 20th December. Perfect no advisories MOT also performed on 20th December. Prior to that MOTs suggested it is rusting. I am a bit suspicious.
Have you considered a GS430 if you can find one? Same engine as the LS430 with same torque converter auto.
