M240i to 535D M sport?

Looking for some opinions on this move, so I currently own an M240i (manual gearbox) and i've owned it around 2 1/2 years, I do still enjoy the car but it has it's downsides, firstly the manual gearbox, as a gearbox I find it good to use but I would now prefer an auto for day to day use, my commute means I spend more time on motorways and more time sat in city traffic, I don't really get much time to have in in the car, and I have an early Porsche Boxster anyway for fun drives.
Sounds silly maybe but i'd also like other comforts such as heated seats and cruise control which my 240i doesn't have, when I bought the car my commute was about 6 miles round trip and I wouldn't have used cruise control and I never considered heated seats.
The big reason for looking at a 5 series is I want more space, I can't get all the family in my 2 series as i'm a tall guy at 6ft4 so when I put the drivers eat all the way back the rear drivers side is unusable, i've considered 3 series and 4 series GC's but the used prices are negligible in difference so I think a 5 is the better value for money overall.
My 240i has a little under 50k miles and i've seen a nice 535D with all the extras I want of the same age with 58k miles, the cost to change is pretty low at a difference of £2500 into the 5 series.
I'm very close to making the leap but just looking for some opinions from anyone who has moved into a 5 series from a smaller BMW and anyone with experience of the 535D in particular, any issues to look for etc, especially as my 240i has been brilliant for reliability

We have an m235 and 535d (m sport but makes little difference).
To be honest, for your journeys I would, and do, take the 5 series. It's bigger, more comfortable and more relaxed. I use the 2 for shorter more fun journeys, not a 100 mile motorway commute as is often my challenge.
On the other hand my other half loved driving the 2 into and around Canary Wharf for an hour or so each time she went there. I couldn't think of anything worse.
With a fun car for weekends, for me, it's a no brainer.

I went from a 2019 M140i to a 2019 520 Touring. Obviously there's a performance difference but the 5 series is a much better car in every respect. Very refined, better equipped and just nice to be in and drive.
Only negatives are the usual BMW servicing and the fact that the doors freeze solid at the slightest frost.

Thanks all for the responses, I think a 5 series is the way forward, I think I have been put off by the one I was interested in though, link below, on the imperfections tab the appearance of what appears to be rust on the roof is concerning me. I will keep looking though

The only things showing their age on the F-series is in the aging connectivity department. 3G signal is being dropped from the air and there's no support for Carplay/Android auto (there are aftermarket solutions but that doesn't play nice with stuff like side view camera's).
Also beware that adaptive dampers on this car are remarkably expensive (4k for a full set) but it's possible to code them out and replace with conventional units.
For ultimate reliability and better MPG it's worth considering a non-Xdrive 530d over a 535/540d.
The 14-way adjustable comfort seats are great, as is the HUD and potentially the active cruise control if you have a lot of congestion.

Not a 535d but I’ve had the 3.0d twin turbo unit in two 635d’s and also the revised version in the 640d. Great engine and both the 6 and 8 speed zf autos are great too. The 8 speed being more economical. Engines are strong, I’m on. 223k miles on my current one. Effortless useable power, 36+ mpg easily. Even sound decent for a diesel.
The 640d is a real bargain of a motor especially when you see the quality of the interior.
