The tyres on my 996 are f**cked.
Currently on there they are front: 225/30 18, back 285/30 18. Using a put-in-your-numberplate-and-we'll-find-the-right-tyres tool on, it says the correct tyre size should be, front: same, back: 265/35 18.
So does anyone have any experience on what the best size is, and any recommendations on make? Michelins 4S and Pirelli p zero (i currently have rossos on the car, but they are so old i cant really judge how good they are) seem to be touted as good options. RPM recommend michelin, but you never know if they have a deal going.
any experienced advice welcome!

I put Michelin Pilot Sport 5's on my 3.4 996 and I've found them really good, even in the cold and ice snap we had, and they seem quieter as well. Edit: forgot to say the size of the tyres are on the sticker under the front luggage compartment lid along with the recommended pressures.

Porsche provide a list of approved tyres per vehicle, including the correct sizes:

Also, when i got my car it had Continentals on it, they were good. I then changed to Michelin Pilot Sport 2’s, they were better.
There’s always a debate whether or not to get the Porsche N-rated tyres. I opted for them as I’ve got a Carrera 4 and felt it was important to make sure the tyre sizes were perfect to avoid overworking the centre diff. If you’ve got a 2WD version then you’ve probably got more freedom to choose a different tyre. Ultimately a personal decision, each to their own.

Good luck finding a new set of Michelin Pilot Sport 2's for reasonable money. Those were good tyres but the tech has moved on a lot, PS5, Assy 6 or SC7's are much better tyres.https://www.porsche.com/uk/accessoriesandservice/c...

PS2s are £187.60 in 265/35 x 18 from Camskill. Obviously you'd have to pay for fitting. Just replaced a 2017 pair and they are a very different sidewall so wonder what else has changed, if anything. Always looked to have a slight stretched look on a 10" rim, they don't any more. Much more vertical sidewall with more wheel protection.
Most sizes of PS2s haven't been updated since release '06/'07. 265/35/18 N3 were updated '15. So even the latest version utilises 8yr old tech.
PS4S, PS5 and Eagle F1 A6 are probably the top three all-rounders on the market just now.
F1 A6s on mine were amazing in a euro road trip that included warm, dry roads, cold, soaking wet motorways/autobahns and a sopping wet Nordschleife. I highly recommend them.

You can safely fit either. I would go 265 as there is more choice... and slightly less grip
Don't buy Pirellis. If you currently have old Rossos, anything you fit will be a massive improvement.
On my 986 3,2, I've gone from old Riosso Corsas to Assymetric 6's and the differnce is night and day sio I wholeheartedly agree. I no longer have to take extreme car in damp conditions.

Pirelli rosso out, will see if i can source michelins, need 4 new tyres so I'll be giving my wallet a heads up that its about to be signifcantly abused soon.
I always look at Camskill as a barometer of tyre availability and prices - but quite often buy elsewhere.(rears)
Goodyear A6 are 166 GBP - MPS4 are 196
As an aside, Bridgestone Potenza Sport, which came out well against the next-level-up tyres are 171.
