Help me with tyre sizes!
Discussion
Hello
I can’t seem to find any information on this on the web for this specific car so I need some advice
I have a 2017 BMW 330e M Sport. With 18 inch staggered wheels (Style 400M)
Currently running:
Front 225/45 R18 91 Y XL
Rear 255/40 R18 91 Y XL
I bought it from a car supermarket and it has 3 different tyres on it, all terribly cheap summer ditchfinders, and alarmingly 2 of them are runflats, 1 reinforced tyre and 1 not reinforced tyre which is very bad.
I am looking at getting either the following
Michelin CrossClimate 2
Continental AllSeasonContact
Bridgestone WeatherControl A005 EVO
However I cannot find them in the staggered set up size of 255/40 R18.
Can anyone recommend a square set up I should use? And what tyre and tyre size to use?

Usually on the inside of the door pillar, there will be a sticker with a table showing what are the allowable tyre sizes and what pressures they should be filled to. This table usually includes the allowed size for M+S (winter) tyres. If you fit any tyre sizes not approved, you could invalidate your insurance and potentially mess up the handling of your car.

Tonnes to choose fromSorry for blurry pic

For AS, does that mean the correct size is 225/45 R18 95 V M+S XL?
I think an All Season would be counted as a summer tyre as it's not a proper winter tyre and therefore not M+S. I can't read the right hand side of the sticker, but another way is to go to a website like blackcircles.com and enter your reg number. Then it should ask you to choose from the list of allowed combinations.

Sorry about that. Black circles isn’t being very helpful , neither is Costco or ATS, or even Michelin. Well, they give the option of 225/45 both sides, but I’m still not 100% on whether I should be running a square setup in case there are any implications on drivability. The right hand side reads
225/40 R19 89 Y
255/40 R18 95 Y
255/40 ZR 18 99 Y XL
225/45 R18 91 Y
225/45 R18 95 Y XL
225/45 ZR 18 95 Y XL
I’m baffled , I guess I shouldn’t be
But nobody offers an All season tyre in 255/40. Only star marked summer tyres/ summer rft’s

If you can find anyone that stocks them, Continental AllSeason Contact are made in both your front and rear sizes.
TyreLeader have both:

Given that they’re getting on a bit, would you recommend these staggered or the CC2 in square?

I disagree - for example there's a M+S tag in the top right hand corner of the Michelin Crossclimate 2 webpage: https://www.michelin.co.uk/auto/tyres/michelin-cro...So I think the OP should use the M+S sizes and it wouldn't surprise me if he can find all season tyres in these sizes, unlike his summer tyre sizes.
Given the obvious option for a square setup is just to match the fronts, and that's on the list on the info panel including as M+S that would be my suggestion. Obviously you'll lose a bit of rear grip with the missing 30mm but I'd imagine new matching tyres will more than compensate for that compared to what you have now.
CC2s are excellent.
CC2s are excellent.

Are you going to fit the 225 tyre on a wheel designed for 255 tyres? This may or not be okay - I know there is some leeway and the boy racers fit tyres on the wrong width wheels all the time. But I'd check with a trusted tyre fitter before you buy the tyres!
They’re 8” at the front and 8.5” at the back so hardly any stretchGassing Station | Suspension, Brakes & Tyres | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
