Hi.

I've got a duster 4wd. Currently has 215 / 65 R16 tyres on it.
(Summer tyred on alloys)

A friend has offered me 4 1 season old Winter tyres on Steel rims - but in size 215 / 55 R16 (PCD 10.5)

From what I can tell I would be fine to fit these and use as my winter wheels. Can anyone confirm this will work for me.

Any advice appreciated.

Thanks

If the steel wheels have the correct hole spacing then yes those wheels and tyres will fit. The winter tyres have a smaller sidewall than your summer tyres so will change the effective heading of the car and make the speedo over read (even more).

Thanks for that.

Will the difference in size be noticable?

I think it would. 21mm difference in sidewall height (almost an inch in old money) and will introduce a further 7% error in the speedo reading.

I doubt that anyone would be excited enough about it to cause trouble, but strictly speaking there's a maximum amount the speed is allowed to overread (from memory it's 10% at some specific speed iro 60mph). Since speedos are never allowed to read low it seems normal to design the car so they read slightly high, so you may not have much margin for further increases before your car is technically not road legal. In other words don't take the pi$$ with wheel sizes and then do anything likely to attract attention.
