Need help with the clean air / ULEZ issues. How do I find out if my UK car is accepable? Do I need to get some sort of permit?

At the moment only 4 of 147 have been implemented, Madrid, Barcelona, Seville and Zaragoza.

It will eventually apply to cities with populations of more than 50,000 inhabitants. But its the historic centre of Malaga, rather than the Costa del Sol.

Simply best to park up outside the zone and use public transport for access. I can find no mention about tourist vehicles, but doubt they would be excepted.

For now, its not something to get too worked up about.

Thanks. I was wondering how they seperated the eco sheep from the goats. In the UK its done via the DVLA but I doubt the spanish system will access that. So my question is more about how do I get a pass? I got one a couple of years back for France using their really efficient computer system.

Oh dear - my recent road trip included Madrid, Seville and Zaragoza frown

Maybe I'll get something nasty through the post eventually...... I did have the required big UK sticker as well as the registration plates, so I guess I made it easy for them to find me.

I am fairly certain that the standard is Euro 4 for petrol and Euro 6 for Diesel.

I also doubt that the Spanish system is as advanced as the French system. I have read that cameras read a pass in the windscreen, so I do not understand how foreign cars fit into that system. Why not just read the number plate and look up on a database.

The problem in Spain is that many millions of cars in circulation do not meet this standard

How do you suppose they do that?

There is no access to your address.

Apparently Barcelona is the only municipality accepting registration of foreign vehicles so far. You can try registering here:-

Can you not get a sticker for a foreign plated car? I know with France I got one via the post for my Aston with little issue.

Not yet looked into it for Spain but did queue the other week at the post office to get the sticker for my Spanish Audi.

Good point - I assumed they would have access via DVLA I know that French speeding fines do, but maybe Spain don't ?

No, neither do since Brexit. There isn't a country in the world has access to DVLA.

GDPR and stuff innit!

I read somewhere that a French Crit Air sticker on a UK car will be accepted in Spain on the basis that the sticker has been issued in the EU. Might not be correct and if it is, there's no guarantee that all of the authorities will understand that it is!
