TVR to BMW - The Conclusion
Discussion
Well chaps, many thanks for all your help in my original thread. Much cogitating ensued, and eventually, I even managed to make a decision!
So the Cerbera has left the building :weeping:....
.....and I'm now a two BMW family.
On wednesday I picked up a 2001 BMW M5. :D
- Le Mans blue
- Black leather and blue inserts
- Comms pack and flip phone
- Heated seats
- Rear blinds
- Through load
- Climate comfort screen
- DSP Individual Audio upgrade
- Towbar ??!!
I'm sure there are some other options I've forgotten! Anyway, hello and I hope you don't mind me joining the M-club.

Thanks for the welcome chaps. I'm still busy adjusting to the sense of wafting along without fuss and in complete silence. The M5 is much slower than my Cerb, but the handling is more benign - don't really feel half as involved. I'm sure it's something I'll adjust to over time.
Being a 2001 its got the widescreen display and what looks like a Mk3 CD nav system. Can this do split-screen, or do I need to upgrade to the Mk4 thing? If so, how much, how and where?

I hope you sent a thank you card and bunch of flowers to the AA man explaining you don't need him any more?
Nice try..... never once called the AA in 32 months of TVR ownership.
But the M5 has already blown a fuse and had a replaced ABS sensor!

Ever give it full throttle? or are you an RAC man?

It is difficult. Everytime I drive the Cerb for a while I get annoyed by the lardy handling and lazy engine of the M5 (you can do split screen by the way), and the complete lask of fear factor.
Everytime I drive the M5 I get annoyed by the rattling of the Cerb, the inability to know which way round the car will emerge from any given pothole, and the feeling when you get out of the cerb that you've just run a marathon.

Top whack I saw was 175+ indicated with a GPS reading of 168. That enough?
Julian - I can totally see where you're at with the differences, seems exactly the same to me. Oh well, just add my Tusc or Cerb next year and have the best of both worlds again
Having only had a brief spin in a grif 500 and owning a 540 sport, i can relate to this thread. Two different cars, but I think at the end of the day, the BM will win. You will still end up getting a weekend spin-about car though, it's just nice to plop into the 5 and waft of to work in comfort which a decent turn of speed, knowing that you can get your fat lardy mates in the back and room for tinnys in the boot.

Spot on old bean, hence the plan for a return to TVR land next year. Cerb + M5.... lovely!
