.......the new jump leads advertised in Argos that go from cigarette lighter to cigarette lighter. Do they work? They have a 12ft lead and cost £9.99.

Probably ok for a Daewoo Matiz or similar, but I certainly wouldn't trust 'em to just-start an engine as powerful as a TVR's!

must be a trickle charge, are you sure its for jump starting?

Definately NOT for jumpstarting.
They are intended to "transfer" power from a running car to a car whose battery is only just off starting the car.
I used some once, you leave them attached for a while with the donor car running.

Probably more suited to cheapo's that dont start some winter mornings.

Very useful when changing the battery (on any car). It keeps power supplied to things like the ECU (so it doesn't reset it), the clock (especially digital ones), the immobilizer and the radio, so you don't lose the keycode.

It won't work as a jump lead to start the car with, but if you tried it the worst thing that could happen is the cigar lighter fuse blowing in either car, or in the lead itself.

That's well worth knowing cider andy, thanks. In the Argos catalogue it does say lighter socket to lighter socket jump lead with LED ready indicator. Maybe they need to re-word it. We was over your neck of the woods a couple of weeks ago at Gorners, where ntel ordered his new Tuscan two and I bought a, er, er, new shirt.
I didn't like to leave empty handed.
