Hi guys,

My 1999 mk2 mx5 has annoyingly developed a leak on the drivers side where the weatherstrips are gathering the water rather than funnelling it away. I’ve pulled the front section down to look at what’s going on and got soaked by all the water that it’s collected as it’s not running out correctly. Is this a problem experienced by others? Can I adapt the weatherstrip or need to buy new ones? I doesn’t think it’s the roof that’s actually leaking even though it’s old and has tears on the fold points. Any ideas will be greatly appreciated!
Tia,
Kev

How are the windows against the seals height wise and do they compress ok when closing the doors?
This is where I’d start.

The window seems to make a good seal on the weatherstrip but the rubber itself fills up completely full of water instead of draining.

Is the split in the middle of the seal fairly tight, it can wick in here.
Check the drain holes at the front too.

Sounds like the actual seals are worn (they lose their shape) and they can retain water rather than stop it getting in. There is a fix for this. Best to take a look at this article on Mighty Fives: https://mighty5s.com/thread/1377/guide-ultimate-le...
