991.1 C2S or C4S. Any advice please?
Discussion
I'm looking to get back into a 911. I'm on the waiting list for a 992 GTS but I'm thinking for almost half the money getting into a low mileage 991.1 C2S or C4S. I've owned a 993C2, 997 C2S, 991.2 GTS and a 992 C2S and probably enjoyed the 993 the most! Whilst the GTS will no doubt be awesome it is a lot of money and I wonder whether the naturally aspirated 991.1 will give me more bang for my buck and 'guilt free' motoring!
Anyone done similar and any advice on whether to go 2 wheel or 4 wheel drive? I've never had a 4 and I'm leaning towards that option. Any advice gratefully received.

Why would you need 4WD?
IME, for most normal, UK mixed weather, driving there is little difference. The ‘driver aids’ keep most things in check. In winter, the tyres can make a bigger difference.
991 is a good choice, although I actually preferred the power delivery of the 991.2 turbo over the 991.1 NA - does need the PSE though.
The other consideration will be the gearbox. The manual definitely provides nicer connectivity, but wasn’t well received when first introduced in 2012, but significantly improved by 991.2 generation
Non-‘S’ models have the narrower body, which some people prefer as it has has a more retro-look.

I can't comment specifically on the 991.1 but my previous 911 was a 991.2 C2S.
There's no need for 4WD in the UK. I used my car all year round and bought a 2nd set of wheels fitted with winter tyres which made the car very safe & stable in the colder & wetter winter months. Winnter tyres are better than just 4WD with standard tyres when it gets cold.

I’ve driven all the different C2/C4 generations from 964 to 991, and, interestingly, the only one I thought felt better in C4 over C2 was the 993.
I had two 993s (C2), both bought new for everyday use, but a few years later I tested a C4, and the front end definitely felt a bit more stable and balanced with less understeer and crisper turn-in. Of course there was a weight penalty, but mostly in the right place.
And, granted, the Turbo models do benefit from the traction, as the power is suddenly delivered to the tyres through the narrower band width.
Otherwise, rwd and manual for a ‘911’

I think the first thing to say is that the Carrera 4 isnt a Four Wheel Drive , I believe its an All Wheel Drive which is something completely different .Anyone done similar and any advice on whether to go 2 wheel or 4 wheel drive? Ok understood
Sorry if I appeared a bit of a smart arse there , it wasnt my intention . The point I was attempting to make before I got interrupted by a Phone call was that the benefits of AWD are all year round as opposed to Winter dependant . Obviously traction loss can occur for a number of reasons and many nothing to do with the Weather . On your other point about the N/A GTS , I am currently running one of those and ive found it a fine machine . I came from an F Type SVR which in my experience was much quicker at least in a straight line though the handling through the curves didn't inspire the same confidence as the Carrera . I have ran this to 150mph when it seems to run out of puff despite it supposedly having another 40mph in reserve . Does anyone have any thoughts on this , I am new to Porsche ownership and this has genuinely surprised me .Nice video from Henry Catchpole on the C4S - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DMklzHtHGwc
