Netflix Password sharing is illegal

At the risk of looking a bit thick I have to admit I didn't realise this was the case.

As a family we've shared Amazon, Netflix, Disney+ and Spotify passwords. I'm guessing the same rule applies to them?

Well, I pay £15.99 and can watch on three screens at one time, i sage my password with the kids.

If that changes, it’s quite simple, it gets cancelled.

I can't see Netflix giving a st if you use your account within the family.

Paying Netflix for an account and giving the password to three of your mates (for example) is a bit different IMO.

Just jot the password down on one of the 27 million bits of paper with the king's head on that you give to your mate and you'll be fine!

I haven't got Netflix but I'd always assumed that when people do subscribe they have to click on something that confirms they wont share. Is that not the case?

Not the subject of the link but as an interesting aside, the makers of that ad, actually ripped off the composer of the Prodigy soundalike tune used in it. Which is ironic.

Pretty sure they’ve had that technology for years but probably chose not to enforce it until the “right” time.

It will bite them in the arse. I heard people are already going back to torrents because all the best shows are split over different subscription services now. People don't want to have multiple subscriptions and this is the first thing they can cut back on during a cost of living crisis.

I'd always thought it wasn't allowed to be shared outside single residence, but never really enforced. Likely because in the 'early' days Netflix wanted the service everywhere, so not enforcing sharing was an easy way to spread. Like a drug dealer giving away samples or cheap products - get people hooked. But with competition growing massively they now need to switch those drug addicted users to real customers before they switch to a different supplier.

There are rumours disney is going to jump on this next year and block sharing/take action, so others will follow suit.
