My car journey is complete.

My first sports car, and now my last until I no longer drive.

First impressions are that it does remind me of the old AE86's

I'll post more when I've had a chance to drive it, roads too salty at the mo.

It's been a long wait, but well worth it.

More to come.

Excellent, love the colour too. One of my early cars was a Starlet GT Turbo with the boost wound up, so I feel I've got the modern equivalent in the GR Yaris.

Wow, good loyalty, I'm sure you're the kind of person that Akio Toyoda had in mind when he masterminded the GT86 and GR86 plan.

Interested to hear more about your impressions of the GR as you get to know it.

Nice update there Trevor - back in the 80s I had the Manta GTE whilst a friend had an AE86 - different marque but similar ethos

Hope the GR86 proves to be just as much fun as the old cars were!

I think I'm regretting cancelling my GR86 order a bit now!

Thanks for sharing that, certainly bought back memories.

That one certainly pulls harder than mine did, my one dyno'd at 93bhp at the wheels.

I had three AE86's altogether, bought on by my Dad having one when I was 16

I know, I know, but trench coats were trendy then, promise.

My Dads one, bought from Hallens

Looking good. Love those old AE86’s and the new GR86’s look great fun.

Love the fact you’ve taken the same photo at the same house only years later.

Thank you.

I've another interesting couple/pics.

I can't remember the exact dates, but about 20 years.

Quite a similar design on the front wing, and I think the colour is pretty close too.

How was the Lexus to own and drive, they were universally slated IIRC by the press but I love the look of that car even today.

Awesome, congrats on the GR86! I've yet to see one, cant wait to have a good look around one and a drive.

Ditto on the RCF questions, i've had an ISF and im curious about the RCF for the future.

I needed to scratch the V8 itch once again so off I went to buy a Mustang, but the RCF was sitting there in the showroom and I was hooked the moment I saw it.

Very impressive looking car, and beautiful inside with high quality materials, and beautifully crafted seats.

It's a big car, and feels it when driving around town.

It did make me feel a little old when driving it (49 at the time)

Plenty of power, but don't expect lighting reactions when you plant your foot.

Always a delay, feels like the gearbox has to wake up first. When the power comes in it goes well.

No idea about corners/handling, I don't really deserve to be on Pistonheads because I drive far too sensibly. (fun on the bikes)

It's pretty muted for a V8.

A little bit of burble on cold start, but otherwise very quiet.

Some owners fitted an aftermarket exhaust, but most said they were just tooooo loud.

Expensive servicing as you'd expect from Lexus, but they do give you a day pass to the local gym/club.

The paint is soft, expect stone damage.

Beware the carbon bonnet versions, one I looked at had a bullet hole in the bonnet (Expensive fix I'd imagine)

People moan about the in car entertainment stuff, but I simply don't use it, so can't comment.

To sum up, lovely machine as a powerful GT cruiser with a luxury feel, but the power delay spoilt it for me. It was probably the shortest ownership for me on a car I bought to run myself.

I never got above 20mpg, but mostly short journeys.

Replaced it with this straight after, now that's a fun car to drive.

Your GR86 looks lovely. Would you ever consider getting the wheels redone in silver? It would look even more reminiscent of you old AE86!

Sorry for the slow reply.

I'd consider a dark grey wheel rather than the black.

When gloss black wheels get a little dirty they look grey, and I prefer that.

In some pics black wheels just look lost in the arches.

Only thing I'd change aesthetically about the car would be the brakes.

GR Yaris had grooved discs, and nice looking calipers. I feel this car should have the same.

I think I'm going to order a duckbill spoiler in black.

I've got one big disappointment with the car/Toyota.

Ordered the car in April, paid deposit.

Online servicing costs that appeared on Toyota's website shortly afterwards were :-

Intermediate service £190

Full service £310

Service plan £22 per month

Now I've taken delivery they have changed to :-

Intermediate £300

Full £450

Monthly £31

I know everything's going up nowadays, but that's quite an increase.

Emailed Toyota and a simple "servicing cost have gone up across the whole Toyota range"
