Timber Garages
Discussion
Want some advice / experiences regarding timber garages.
I am about to demolish a block double garage and an old nissen hut to make way for hopefully a 5 car timber garage.
An Phers done something similar? Who did the work and how much for the groundworks, supply of the garages and putting up (won't use the word erection or Vixpy will get excited).

How long is a peice of string
Size, material choice and finish will dictate everything
>> FIWIW I built a brick garage, pretty much as an exercise to learn the planning process, 7.3m x 3m (very large single) for about £3k (paid someone to bung the bricks up (£1k), did everything else myself)

My brother builds timber framed buildings for a living most are car ports with workshops i think for 3 cars and a workshop comes out about 9K all in and thats with an oak frame if you just wanted soft wood its about 6K.
Can you email me his details and I will give him a ring.
Excellent
I've been in contact with the council and I don't need planning permission as long as
a. the roof height is not more than the existing structure.
b. the ground area is not more than half the overall plot.
c. it's more than 5m from the house.
d. it's not near to the road than the existing garages.
I am planning on getting the ground works done by a local contractor but will probably allow for a hoist rather than a pit.

I have often wondered about these for their aesthetic qualities as much as anything else! (not that we have any room for a garage full stop at the moment!). but one thing - what are the insurance implications - on the car insurance it always goes on about a 'brick built garage', likewise are there any issues with the buildings insurance...?

Am I the only one thinking "shed" not "garage"?. His missus won't be pleased if he drives over the flowers to get the car in will she
