Last night I was in a pub in Cheltenham and a guy put Peaches and Straighten Out on the jukebox, and we got chatting about music in general and The Stranglers in particular, neither of us knowing about Jet Black's passing. On the drive home I heard the sad news on the radio. I was 14 when Black and White was released and The Raven tour was one of my first gig experiences. So many memories of the band and their music, the soundtrack to my teenage years.

Fly straight with perfection Jet. RIP

RiP Jet Black.

Loved The Stranglers as a kid, hearing Black & White as an 11 year old was a revelation.

Very sad news. Knew them all vaguely in the early days while at Guildford Tech. All interesting characters!!

Sad, but a good age I guess.

A great and very underrated band IMO, one of the new wave acts who were actually very talented musicians.

A shame after losing Dave Greenfield as well - he must have been a Doors fan as his sound was very like Ray Manzarek.

I seem, to recall Jet was a great cook and keen gourmet.

An odd bunch of guys, not your typical punk/new wave act of the time not least as they were all relatively old when they broke

I don't think they were really 'new wave' in the sense of punk rockers trying to be a bit more grown up. They were more a conventional rock band trying to be a bit more punkish. Some genuine musicianship and good melodies there.

Saw them at Kilburn High road in about 1993 when Paul Roberts was screaming out the tunes. Epic
