Well, that must have been a new record. The XJ has gone..turned out to be a bit of a disaster in e few ways!

During owning that, I decided that I wanted something cheaper (and more useful) and that looked good to use every day, then something fun for the weekend (possibly a Mk3 MR2, Boxster, or Z4

I did think of something like a 320D Estate, but I fancied something different. I've always liked the 159, those front lights, especially in Sportwagon trim, so did some research! I knew it had to be red, and in the ti trim, with those stunning wheels/lowered suspension. I did want the 1.75tbi, but they seem very rare. I also read the 2.0 JTDM engine was the diesel to go for with none of the DPF problems of the earlier ones, although the 5 cylinder does sound good. I found this one at a local specialist in great condition, in just the spec I wanted.

The garage have replaced the front top mounts and ball joints, and a new battery

It drives brilliantly, and for a car from 2010 and 89k miles l there's not one rattle, and everything feels very solid. The seats are lovely, and gear change is brilliant too, lovely steering feel, and direct steering also. Lovely large folder of history with it, which was nice!

For the future, my plans are maybe get the wheels done in bronze, and possibly a remap (and some better tyres) it's got Nakangs on the front at the moment, but I've read they can eat through front tyres.

The spec seems huge for one of these! Here are some photos when it arrived tonight

And from the dealership

And the huge options

Great looking car! I love a BMW but these do look more classy than an E91, especially compared to a 320d.

Thank you smile I was looking at the Alpina D3 as well, but this won me over. Don't think it's as efficient fuel wise as the BMW, but should still get 6-700 miles to a tank which will do me fine for a daily.

Love Alfa have a good reputation. I've always thought the 159ti is a fantastic looking car especially in wagon form.

What was wrong with the XJ?

Great looking wagon and an amazing option list.

I’m an Alfa fan but didn’t know some of those options even existed for the 159.

Enjoyed that engine in a Giulietta

I hope the electric windows do better for you than mine! About to replace the mechanism on the drivers after doing both rears!

I've always loved the looks of the 156 and 159s and that one looks great in red as well as having some good options. thumbup

I'm another BMW addict but that looks so much better than my E91 did! But I was already in love with petrol straight 6s and RWD.

I've been really impressed with them, one of the best car buying experiences I've had.

I've always liked them too, I pass a black saloon every day, it always turns my head.

It was not enough resrch on my part to be honest. I do shortish trips, with longer ones during the week, I never got a DPF problem, but I was getting the dreaded oil dillution issues that I had read about, even with some motorway trips, the service indicator was saying it needed an oil change after a couple of months driving (and the selling dealership had just done one) This would have cost quite a bit, although I could have done it. Also, even though I knew it would be large, I was finding it a bit too big to be honest, for the actual size inside it. I think I just bought the wrong car for me at the time..

Thank you smile I was amazed to see some of them. The chap who I dealt with at the dealership recons it could have been a demonstrator at some point. The infotainment screen is quite fun, i keep trying to press the screen, realising its got twist knobs to choose options!

I'm really impressed with the engine, for the age of it, it's very smooth, and even quiet. I'll bet it would go well in the Giulietta being lighter!

Thank you! I do like in Red, black looks great too, but this one me over. Looking forward to giving it a good clean/polish, and conditioning the leather.

I was very close to getting a 3 series or alpina D3/B3 with the straight 6 in, but I suddenly got side tracked by this! hehe I am looking at possibly getting a Z4 as the summer car though, so I'll get to enjoy the straight 6 that way.

I've often looked at these especially with love Alfa not being that far from me. They're generally well built and look amazing. But the lack of an auto puts me off. The Guilietta is available with the tbi engine and an auto and it's an itch I must scratch although the interior is not a patch on the 159
Your wagon looks a million dollars

I had no idea the XJ had a problem with the engines like that although I'd heard about the DPF one

Very nice. will be watching this.

I wanted to scratch this itch myself, wanted a red 3.2 V6 Sportwagon TI but apparently they didn't sell many in red in the UK so it was going to be hard to find one, then realised I actually wanted a Busso engine which the 159 doesn't get. Went for a SAAB Sportwagon V6 in the end.

They seemed great, I think they can source cars too, so may be able to find what your looking for.

I've been really impressed with the build quality of it, the 1.75 would have been good but they rarely seem to pop up.

I think it was the XJ, the discovery sport and F pace that had the issue to the location of the DPF,

Even JLR were awarwe of it, and telling dealers.

Thank you, will be sure to keep the thread updated with the running of the car smile I may have more to update with this than my previous!

There didn't seem to be many V6s at all, there was a nice one I found on Ebay, but wasn't a wagon unfortunately.

Bet the SAAB sounds good!

I bought mine on a whim like you did.

It was a hateful thing!

Luckily I made £2k on selling it so I didn't have to feel too sad.

Looked lovely though!

Ah, what was it you weren't a fan of? So far I seem to like it more than the XJ!

They do look good!
