Have played it a little, seems a bit like Left-4-Dead on steroids, but set in 40k.
Anyone else playing it?

Unless you're a die hard 40k fan this game is about as deep as a puddle.
Basically left click to attack, right click to block. Nothing intices me to keep playing because there is nothing to strive for.
Two questions.Basically left click to attack, right click to block. Nothing intices me to keep playing because there is nothing to strive for.
1. Did you ever play Vermintide 2?
2. What difficulty did you play on?
As a veteran VT2 player, that game is incredibly boring on the low difficulties...because it's exactly that, basic attacks win the day. However the harder difficulties throw in a ton of skill and completely change the game. Blocking, dodging, stamina management, positioning, location/situational awareness, balancing saving yourself against saving a team member, when to use potions, when to use bombs, dealing with hordes vs dealing with elites vs dealing with specials. One wrong choice on that list can be a success vs a failure on Legend or Cataclysm difficulties.
Darktide needs some serious balancing, but the principle is the same; the fun comes with the constant struggle to survive and playing pretty much entirely with your backs against the wall. It also makes a massive difference playing with friends instead of random strangers.
Granted, some people like to just run through, slaughter everything and enjoy the loot...but it's not where the game really shines.
Some of my friends play this. I’ve played Vermintide 1&2 and this just seems to be more of the same with different skins. Vermintide is OK for a while but it gets boring really fast. And I’m not into 40K at all, I just played it because they did. So this is an easy pass for me.
I’m sticking to AoE4 and HLL for the time being.

Now going on my "don't bother to play it" list.
I've tried to complete about a dozen missions... managed 1 so far, on all the others we get 50% through and I get disconnected and can never reconnect.
Doesn't happen with any other game.
I was fine for the first dozen or so missions then we had one game where all four of us disconnected one at a time, then couldn't load into a game, then it would be fine for a while and then we would all disconnect together. It's just frustrating to play with network issues like that.I've tried to complete about a dozen missions... managed 1 so far, on all the others we get 50% through and I get disconnected and can never reconnect.

The gameplay is fine, we played Vermintide 2 a fair bit and it's pretty similar to that, just without all the 'extra' bits like crafting. I'm a fan of the whole 40k thing, if I wasn't I'd be annoyed at paying for the game.

Never played Vermintide 2, but have owned it on Steam for years. I played Darktide on 3/4, never 5 because party wasn't interested much.1. Did you ever play Vermintide 2?

Honestly all the mechanics you describe aren't really something I found difficult to manage, the biggest issue was trying to res downed team mates if they somehow got knocked. If no one gets knocked then nothing is really that difficult, practically everything can be blocked and you can create space easily with the dodge. That's why I said it boils down to left click to win.
The difficulty of the mission is determined by your weakest teammate.
Also all that aside the game looks shockingly bad for how resource intensive it is and DLSS just makes it a blurry mess. Can barely maintain 60fps on a 3080 with DLSS on.

Thread revival from long ago. But I think Warhammer: Darktide is well worth a look now it's free to play if you have the Xbox gamepass. It's a four person PvE game with fairly short missions that take maybe 20 mins to complete. There's quite a big emphasis on melee combat alongside gun play and i would say it's in the 'easy to grasp, difficult to master' category, in as much as if you run missions on the easy difficulties you barely take damage, but ramp the difficulty up and it gets quite challenging.
It's not the best game ever made and lacks a bit of depth as there's no real story line as far as i can tell so i couldn't recommend paying for it, but on the gamepass that isn't an issue. Despite being 3 years old matchmaking remains quick and there're none of the stability issues i think the earlier game may have had.
If you're looking for a game that's easy to pick up and put down, no battlepasses to grind or FOMO stuff, just a bit of blasting and slashing to wind down after work you could do a lot worse

I recently started playing because a friend is a huge fan. I'm enjoying it and it's very pretty to look at if you're into 40k. Music is top tier in terms of you know s**t is going to hit the fan when the organ cranks up.
I'm finding the perks and talents and blessings and endowments and tinctures and marks a bit overwhelming though and would probably enjoy a simplified leveling system more.
Not as polished as L4D but a good laugh, particularly with the chunky boltgun which has the best SFX.

I play games as a group of 3-4 friends most weeks, we started DarkTide when it was first released, got frustrated with it and stopped playing for a bit but have gone back to it now as the developers have made quite a few quality of life updates and it's now our default game until something shiny comes along to replace it.
It's good fun, the guns are varied and mostly all useful, the melee weapons are pretty varied, the sounds really suit the 40k world and with 4 players on voice chat you really get sense of a team fighting its way through a hive. We play on level 3 if we're just chilling, 4 if we're taking it seriously or 5 if we want a decent challenge.
There are downsides - the documentation is appalling so you have to Google how to get the weapon you want, there are weapon stats that just aren't explained anywhere (cleave, finesse, etc.), people do moan that cosmetics you can buy come and go from the shop but I still use the starting cosmetics so that doesn't apply to me...
Well worth giving it a shot now if you were disappointed at launch.
