Volvo Penta won’t start :(

Having had the boat out of the water for the last few weeks and having her anti fouled etc she’s gone back on the water and she won’t start. It’s had a new ignition barrel put in but that’s the only change. I’ve had a marine guy onboard and he can’t solve the problem - but it kicks over with quick start spray, the sparks are strong, starter motor seems strong and both fuel pumps are working. But it won’t start. Any suggestions?

Which model VP?

Perhaps check fuel filters, going out/ in the water may have mixed up any sludge from the bottom of the fuel tank and now sucked into the system...

Thanks for this. I’ve asked and they were checked. Volvo Penta specialists booked for Monday morning.

You may have airlocked the fuel system. Did you bleed the system? May have habbend when slipping or craning the boat.

What engine is it? If its in older mechanical one then the fuel system is nice and simple, if its a modern common rail, it could be anything from a blockage or you're wearing the wrong colour pants.

Thanks for the suggestions - I think the engine is about 10 years old. The people going on on Monday have a diagnostic machine which will hopefully give some sort of error code.

The D1 has silly ECU problems because they weren't encapsulated properly, sounds like that may be what you have.
