The rising cost of water !

We have two water bills, one company for supply and one for waste. So we have to pay two services charges but our bill appears to be rather high. The waste water company uses the same figure as supply for calculating our bill, is this correct - surely we put to waste less water than is supplied?
We have a 4 bed house, there's just the two of us, we don't have a pond or a swimming pool with automatic top up or anything like that. We use the dishwasher twice a week, sometimes less, the washing machine is used twice a week too, we have one shower each per day and we don't use any power showers.
Our bills combined are around £600 a year, which would seem rather excessive being more than twice the amount we used to pay at our previous 4 bed house about a year ago.
How does this compare folks?

Do you have a meter? Seems to me that people with them pay rather a lot more than those without.
I can kind of see the point, in that it discourages wasting water but the water companies can hardly complain about that when some areas have huge amounts leaking away. And then they have the bloody cheek to post a profit at the end of the year.

Not sure that this is always the case.
As I understand it the water cos. Know how much water they supply in total. They deduct the total metered water usage and then divide the remained between those without a meter. Therefore meaning that the un-metered pay for all the leaks etc.
My opinion is that if there is only one or two people living in the house it is far better to have a meter. 4+ and being un-metered makes good sense. I know that what I pay for my water (on a septic tank for the ‘out’) is far less than a neighbour who has a meter where there are 4 of them at a property compared to 5 at mine.

Don't think so, unless you have a big puddle under your house.All the water coming into your home has to be got rid of. I would suspect output=input, more or less.

I've had a water meter for about 10 years now....and it's still a lot less than the monthly water rate bill I paid 10 years ago
Anglia region, sole occupier....and £15 a month with the water meter ( about 5 years ago it used to be £10 a month)

My inlaws are also on a meter & pay about half what they did before moving over.
Ah....now you realise the corrolation of council tax to water charges.....
So two choices......fill the house up with people and stuff to get value for money out of your present charging.
Or...keep the number of occupants to no more than 3.5 approx and get a meter fitted

Don't think so, unless you have a big puddle under your house.All the water coming into your home has to be got rid of. I would suspect output=input, more or less.
Sorry not the situation a lot of people drink water ie out of a tap in tea or soft drinks etc or sprinkle it over their gardens or washing their car etc so the volume out will not = volume in
I queried this and they say that they charge for the same volume of waste but at a reduced rate. I have had major problems with my water suplyer
