Alternatives to a Golf R estate?

Looking to change my car early next year, I need an estate car and euro 6.
Budget probably up to £20k, I like the Golf R but what else is there with similar performance and fun?

Well the Cupra ST is also worth considering. Quite similar , probably a bit newer and lower miles for the money.

20k will probably see you in a pre facelift Golf R - when I was looking at them, i wanted the facelift for CarPlay/7 Speed DSG / Virtual cockpit. I test drove a Pre and whilst great fun (manual) the interior felt dated.

I don't think you will find anything as fun or engaging as the R. I still miss mine.

Second hand prices haven't held up as well as other cars. You may be surprised at what you can get for £20K ish.

I think the insurance and potential running costs are putting people off.

Thanks, the Skoda superb is a great car but just don’t fancy one, BMW looks tempting though.

Leon ST 4drive.

I've had one, as well as a Cupra ST 290 (2wd) a year or two later, and the former was much more composed. Better all weather pace and no wheel hop.

I understand that the later 7 speeds are much more economical on a run.

I've also had a 335i Touring. Lovely engine and gearbox, decent economy but the boot is pretty small for an estate and the ride on 19s was brutal. We only kept it a short space of time because my wife and kids hated long journeys in it!

I had a Cupra ST 4Drive - competent but dull as ditchwatwr, returned it to lease company 5 months early I was so bored with it

Why do you need an estate?

Camping? Dogs? Kids stuff?

We had a Clubman Cooper S. It wasn't an estate based on boot size. Not even close/

I think you're the first person I've ever heard describe a Golf R as fun & engaging!
